Job summary

Cement Australia is seeking a Purchasing Team Leader to guide a small team coordinating our sites' purchasing requirements. The role is hands-on, with SAP workflow from requisitions to POs, and close collaboration with site stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate information.

You will drive process improvements, manage overseas purchases, and mentor your team while supporting shutdown activities and supplier relations in a dynamic industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • Proven purchasing experience, ideally in manufacturing or heavy industry.
  • Strong SAP Purchasing experience, preferably SAP MM.
  • Experience with international freight is advantageous.
  • Excellent vendor management and stakeholder skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in Purchasing is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive process improvements, standard procedures and training.
  • Manage the centralised inbox and allocate work to Purchasing Officers.
  • Oversee materials management and SAP MM processes.
  • Manage overseas purchases, freight quotes and delivery tracking.
  • End-to-end management of Purchase Orders from placement to payment.
  • Follow up expedites, backorders and maintain SAP records.
  • Lead RFQ process and maintain info records per policy.
  • Collaborate with Category Managers to establish and maintain contracts.
  • Support shutdown activities related to purchasing, planning and execution.
  • Oversee timely payments by matching invoices to orders.
  • Coach, mentor and develop the team.

Job description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Team Leaderto join Cement Australia. You will lead a small team coordinating the purchasing requirements for our operating sites, with your own portfolio to focus on.

This is a hands on role where your days will be spent in SAP as you convert purchase requisitions to purchase orders and other tasks in the Procure-to-Pay process. Working closely with your site stakeholders on a daily basis, you will ensure the quality and accuracy of information is high. You'll influence and manage expectations internally and externally, ensuring our sites obtain what they need, when they need it. Your skill in resolving issues as they arise is where you are able to make a difference and ultimately achieve personal satisfaction with the impact you have on our operations.

In this role you will:
  • Develop and drive process improvements, standard procedures and training
  • Manage the centralised inbox, including allocating to the Purchasing Officers
  • Experience and a strong understanding in materials management (SAP MM)
  • Manage overseas purchases, including freight quotes and tracking delivery
  • Organise end-to-end management of Purchase Orders from placement to payment
  • Follow up expedites, backorders and update SAP records
  • Manage RFQ process, updating info records, ensuring quotes are within policy guidelines
  • Work with Category Managers to establish new, and maintain/manage existing contracts for goods and services
  • Support shutdown activities in relation to required purchasing, planning and execution
  • Manage invoices to facilitate 'in full, on time' payment of Suppliers' invoices
  • Coach, mentor and develop your team
What You’ll Bring
  • You have previous purchasing experience, ideally within maufacturing or heavy industry
  • You have experience usingSAP Purchasing, ideally to a high level
  • Your experienced in understanding international freight
  • Your relationship building skills are outstanding, vendor management skills a plus
  • You are experienced in MS Office suite, especially Excel
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You can bring a positive and engaging attitude
  • Your values are based on honesty and a high work ethic committed to get the job done
  • You may have previous leadership/supervisory experience in a Purchasing role, however this is not essential and we will support your development in this area
