Job summary

Serco is hiring a Psychologist to join the ACT Health Centre in Canberra, delivering mental health care to Defence personnel within a multidisciplinary team. You will conduct intake, comprehensive assessments and provide focused psychological strategies to a diverse caseload.

The role requires current AHPRA registration, CPD participation, HLTAID009 certification and at least two years of post-graduate mental health experience in relevant settings.

Qualifications

• Registration must be current, unconditional and unrestricted.
• Minimum 2 years post-graduate mental health experience in primary or specialist settings.
• Experience delivering Medicare 'Focused Psychological Strategies'.
• Recent CPD participation in line with AHPRA requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant policies and national standards in mental health.
• Desirable knowledge of the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Responsibilities

• Provide intake and initial assessment with flexibility to accommodate presentation needs.
• Manage a caseload with oversight of externally referred cases and in-house treatment.
• Deliver evidence-based focussed psychological strategies within a multidisciplinary team.
• Conduct crisis presentations, risk assessment and risk management planning.
• Collaborate with medical staff, Command and other professionals to support Defence members.

About The Role

In this role you will work as a part of a multidisciplinary team within a health centre setting supporting the diverse mental health needs of military members. Referrals will come from a variety of sources; the member, medical team and Command, offering diversity in presentations and support requests. The support you will offer begins with initial intake and assessment with flexibility to accommodate presenting need. There is scope for the use of psychometrics and engagement in treatment that capitalises on your skills, interests and scope of practice. You will have autonomy to manage your caseload including oversight and case management of externally referred cases and the provision of internal treatment to Defence members. Additionally, your management of crisis presentations, risk assessment and risk management planning is supported within a multi-disciplinary team.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have

• The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
• Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in the last 5 years in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting undertaking comprehensive mental health assessment and delivering a range of evidence based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule.
• Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
• Knowledge of relevant State/Territory policies and procedures and national standards governing mental health practice (desirable).
• Knowledge of the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2023 (desirable).

About ACT Health Centre

The ACT Health Centre is a relatively new facility, having opened in mid-2021, and is an amalgamation of the Duntroon and Russell health centres. Approximately 7000 military personnel attend the Health Centre, including trainee officers from both the ADFA and Royal Military College. The Health Centre offers inpatient and outpatient services, as well as dentistry, physiotherapy, and pharmacy. Standard operating hours are 0700-1900 Monday-Friday, with a ward that operates 24/7.
