Job summary

The Department of Education in Victoria is seeking a Provisional Psychologist to provide psychology services to primary and secondary schools in the Inner Gippsland Area. You will collaborate with the Student Support Services team and health and wellbeing staff to support teaching, learning and student wellbeing.

The role is fixed term, part time (0.8 FTE) for two years, with supervision, logging hours for AHPRA, and registration within 2 years to remain ongoing.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited fifth-year psychology program (e.g., Master of Professional Psychology).
• Provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
• Approval of an internship program plan by AHPRA prior to commencement.
• Commitment to ethical practice and adherence to the APS Code of Ethics.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

• Undertake psychological practice (client contact, assessment, intervention, report writing) in an approved setting to contribute toward the 1,540-hour total requirement.
• Participate in regular supervision: at least 1 hour per 17.5 hours of practice, with two-thirds as individual supervision by your principal supervisor.
• Maintain accurate logbook entries, progress reports, professional development records, and case study submissions as required by AHPRA.
• Submit progress reports every six months or more frequently (e.g., part-time) signed by your supervisor.
• Coordinate with your other placement(s) to ensure cumulative hours and supervision requirements are met across roles.
• Completion of an accredited fifth-year psychology qualification and current provisional registration.
• Effective workload management and ability to maintain professional standards across placements.
• Commitment to ethical practice, clear communication, and timely record-keeping.

About the Role: An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated team-player to provide psychology services to schools in the Inner Gippsland Area. As a member of a vibrant, multi-disciplinary Student Support Services (SSS) team, the Provisional Psychologist provides service in the Inner Gippsland Area to primary and secondary schools. The successful applicant will collaborate with other SSS team members and health and wellbeing staff to provide consultation, assessment, support and program advice capable of improving teaching, learning and wellbeing strategies for students requiring support. The role requires sound interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work autonomously. The successful applicant may be required to work across the Inner Gippsland Area as/when required. This position requires completion of registration with AHPRA within 2 years to remain ongoing.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of an accredited fifth-year psychology program (e.g., Master of Professional Psychology).
• Experience in or intention to either complete an existing part-time 5+1 internship or balance this role with another part-time placement, ensuring total program hours and supervision requirements are met
• Provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
• Approval of an internship program plan by AHPRA prior to commencement.
• Commitment to ethical practice and adherence to the APS Code of Ethics.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Group Schools and Regional Services (SRS)

Offers central, regional, and local expertise to enhance learning and development outcomes, supported by a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce. It comprises 17 areas within 4 regions, backed by 5 central office divisions, all collaborating to deliver improved outcomes for early childhood services, schools, communities, and learners, in line with Education State commitments. SRS regions serve as a bridge between the central office, schools, and service providers, ensuring smooth transitions for learners and achieving the department's ambitious targets. This role is located in the Student Support Services Branch, Inner Gippsland Area, South Eastern Victoria Region, SRS. The Student Support Services Branch is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for a range of health and wellbeing services. The role reports to the Student Support Services Branch Manager.
