Job description

Adelaide SA | Full Time
Competitive remuneration + Vehicle or Car Allowance

Senior project leadership role with a significant pipeline of secured water infrastructure projects in South Australia and opportunities to deliver projects interstate.

Why Waternish?

Waternish Engineering is an established Australian engineering and construction company specialising in the design and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure.

For more than 20 years, we have delivered projects for major water utilities and infrastructure clients across Australia. Our strength comes from combining engineering, project management and construction capability within the one business – allowing our people to be involved in projects from concept and design through to construction, commissioning and handover.

We currently have a significant volume of secured work in South Australia, including major water and wastewater treatment and distribution system expansions in the Adelaide Hills and metropolitan growth areas.

We are now looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Adelaide team and take a leading role in the delivery of these projects.

This is an opportunity to step into a strong existing workload, work on technically interesting infrastructure projects and become an important part of Waternish's continued growth in South Australia and across Australia.

The opportunity

Based in Adelaide, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects from award through to completion.

Your initial focus will be on a substantial portfolio of secured work in South Australia, including treatment plant expansions, water and wastewater distribution infrastructure, pump stations, pipelines, mechanical and process installations and upgrades to operating facilities.

Over time, the role may also involve managing or supporting Waternish projects elsewhere in Australia from our Adelaide base.

You will work closely with Waternish's engineering, construction and commercial teams and will have the autonomy expected of an experienced Project Manager.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing projects from contract award, planning and mobilisation through construction, commissioning and close-out
  • Leading Project Engineers, Site Supervisors, construction personnel, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Developing project delivery strategies, programs, budgets and resource plans
  • Taking ownership of project financial performance, forecasting, cost control and reporting
  • Managing contracts, variations, procurement, subcontractors and commercial outcomes
  • Identifying and managing project risks and opportunities
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders
  • Working closely with design teams to ensure practical, constructable and cost-effective outcomes
  • Providing leadership in safety, quality and environmental performance
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, to the required quality and within budget
  • Supporting tendering, project planning and development of future opportunities
  • Contributing to the continued development of Waternish's project delivery capability
About you

We are looking for an experienced project professional who understands both project management and construction delivery.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • 10+ years' experience in engineering, construction or infrastructure project delivery
  • Demonstrated responsibility for project budgets, programs, contracts and commercial outcomes
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project and construction teams
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills
  • A practical understanding of how projects are constructed, not simply how they are managed
  • Strong commercial judgement and an ability to identify and resolve issues before they become problems
  • Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and procurement
  • A strong commitment to safety and quality
  • Excellent communication, leadership and decision-making skills
  • Experience delivering water or wastewater infrastructurewill be highly regarded, particularly projects involving treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, mechanical/process equipment or upgrades to operating facilities.
  • A tertiary qualification in engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline is desirable; however, substantial relevant construction and project management experience will also be considered.
What we offer

This is a senior role within an established and growing part of our business, with a strong workload already in place.

We offer:

  • Competitive remuneration based on experience
  • Company vehicle or car allowance
  • A significant pipeline of secured water and wastewater infrastructure work in South Australia
  • The opportunity to work with major Australian water utilities and infrastructure clients
  • Technically interesting projects across treatment, distribution and process infrastructure
  • Direct access to senior management and genuine involvement in business decisions
  • The opportunity to remain close to both engineering and construction delivery
  • Opportunities to manage and support projects throughout Australia
  • A collaborative workplace with short decision-making lines and a strong focus on achieving good project outcomes
Make an impact

This role offers the opportunity to take genuine ownership of project outcomes and see the direct impact of your decisions and leadership.

You will have the autonomy to manage projects effectively, clear visibility of progress from planning through to completion, and direct access to the people making key business and project decisions.

As Waternish continues to grow, you will also have the opportunity to influence how we deliver projects, develop our capability and shape the future direction of the business.

We are looking for someone who combines strong commercial project management with practical construction knowledge and who wants to play a meaningful role in both project delivery and Waternish's continued growth.

If that sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.
