Job summary

Waternish Engineering, based in Canberra, seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead water and wastewater infrastructure projects from award to handover.

You will manage multidisciplinary teams, drive safety and quality, and build long-term client relationships across Australia, with the ACT as a core focus.

Qualifications

• 15+ years' experience in engineering, construction or infrastructure project delivery.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project and construction teams.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience delivering water or wastewater infrastructure will be highly regarded.
• A tertiary qualification in engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline is desirable; substantial relevant construction and project management experience will be considered.

Senior project leadership role with a strong pipeline of water infrastructure projects in the ACT and across Australia.

We have a strong and growing pipeline of opportunities in the Australian Capital Territory, including significant water infrastructure work for key clients in the region, and are continuing to expand our permanent presence in Canberra.

We are now looking for an experienced Project Manager to become a key member of our growing ACT team.

This is more than a role managing an individual project. For the right person, it is an opportunity to help grow Waternish's presence in the ACT, develop long-term client relationships and take a leading role in the delivery of a significant pipeline of water infrastructure work.

The opportunity

Based in Canberra, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects from award through to completion.

Depending on the project, this could include treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, mechanical and process installations, upgrades to operating facilities and multidisciplinary design-and-construct projects.

You will work closely with Waternish's engineering, construction and commercial teams and will have the autonomy expected of an experienced Project Manager.

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing projects from contract award, planning and mobilisation through construction, commissioning and close-out

Leading Project Engineers, Site Supervisors, construction personnel, subcontractors and suppliers

Developing project delivery strategies, programs, budgets and resource plans

Taking ownership of project financial performance, forecasting, cost control and reporting

Managing contracts, variations, procurement, subcontractors and commercial outcomes

Identifying and managing project risks and opportunities

Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders

Working closely with design teams to ensure practical, constructable and cost-effective outcomes

Providing leadership in safety, quality and environmental performance

Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, to the required quality and within budget

Supporting tendering, project planning and development of future opportunities

Contributing to the continued development of Waternish's ACT business and project delivery capability

While the position will be primarily focused on our ACT projects, there may also be opportunities to manage or support projects elsewhere in Australia.

About you

We are looking for an experienced project professional who understands both project management and construction delivery.

Ideally, you will bring:

15+ years' experience in engineering, construction or infrastructure project delivery

Demonstrated responsibility for project budgets, programs, contracts and commercial outcomes

Experience leading multidisciplinary project and construction teams

Strong client and stakeholder management skills

A practical understanding of how projects are constructed, not simply how they are managed

Strong commercial judgement and an ability to identify and resolve issues before they become problems

Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and procurement

A strong commitment to safety and quality

Excellent communication, leadership and decision-making skills

Experience delivering water or wastewater infrastructure will be highly regarded, particularly projects involving treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, mechanical/process equipment or upgrades to operating facilities.

A tertiary qualification in engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline is desirable; however, substantial relevant construction and project management experience will also be considered.
