Project Manager – Sheet Metal Fabrication & Manufacturing

An established Australian advanced manufacturing company is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Project Manager to join its manufacturing team.

This is a factory‑floor‑focused position requiring a strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including welding, CNC laser cutting, brake pressing and general metal fabrication.

The successful applicant will work closely with Production Managers and other departments to coordinate manufacturing projects, monitor job progress, identify and resolve production bottlenecks and ensure work is completed efficiently, to the required quality standards and within agreed delivery schedules.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, well organised and capable of managing multiple manufacturing projects, resolving production issues and ensuring jobs progress smoothly through the factory.

The Role

• Manage and coordinate multiple manufacturing projects from commencement through to completion and delivery.
• Work closely with Production Managers to coordinate manufacturing activities, job priorities and project requirements.
• Monitor and follow up jobs throughout the manufacturing process to ensure project milestones and delivery deadlines are met.
• Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, delays and workflow issues that may affect project delivery.
• Coordinate project requirements across manufacturing and quality departments.
• Monitor material availability, manufacturing progress and resource requirements to identify potential delays.
• Review engineering drawings, manufacturing specifications and project documentation to ensure production requirements are understood.
• Liaise with supervisors, tradespeople and other departments to resolve day‑to‑day manufacturing and project issues.
• Provide regular updates to management on project progress, outstanding issues, potential delays and delivery schedules.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in project management, production coordination or manufacturing management within a metal fabrication or engineering manufacturing environment.
• Strong practical knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Good understanding of general metal fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
• Experience managing and coordinating manufacturing jobs or projects.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing workflow, production scheduling and delivery requirements.
• Ability to identify production bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.
• Strong problem‑solving, organisational and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Production Managers, supervisors and other departments.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing project priorities.
• A hands‑on approach with a strong presence on the factory floor.
• A trade qualification or relevant technical background in sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing would be highly regarded.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment involving both sheet metal fabrication and CNC machining would be advantageous.
