With the help of over 30,000 people over 100 years, we have built, maintained, and refurbished hydropower infrastructure across Tasmania. We’re fuelling the future of energy with the power of the past, and we need skilled and reliable people to join us as we look ahead to a suite of major refurbishments of our power stations in line with our Major Works program.

We support applications from all members of our community for equitable access to our employment opportunities. We are open to discussing workplace flexibility in all our vacancies, to ensure we can attract the best candidates and accommodate individual needs, differences, disabilities and working arrangements, even in ways we have not thought of. Our merit-based recruitment practices are founded on building diversity by fostering an inclusive, flexible and equitable workplace.

About the role:

To put it simply…you’ll use your technical experience to deliver refurbishment projects that secure Tasmania’s renewable energy future. You’ll lead projects from design through to delivery, ensuring replacements and upgrades of assets that have been powering the state for over a century. This position is a 12-month max term opportunity.

As a Project Manager in the Major Works team, you will be:

  • Managing projects to achieve agreed scope, cost, schedule and technical quality outcomes
  • Preparing and presenting high quality business cases and commercial analysis
  • Overseeing contract development, negotiation, execution and administration
  • Applying best practice risk, safety and asset management processes to every stage
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships across councils, regulators and the community
  • Mentoring and supporting capability growth within the Major Works team

You’re an experienced project manager who thrives in complex technical environments and knows how to bring people together to deliver results. With qualifications in engineering, project management or a related field, you have proven experience managing the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and design through to contracting, delivery and handover.

In addition to a competitive remuneration package, this role offers the unique opportunity to work across Tasmania on projects that shape the state’s renewable energy future. You’ll travel to some of the most breathtaking locations while leading critical hydropower upgrades.

We value flexibility and understand it means different things to different people, so we’re open to discussing how it can work for you, whether that’s flexible hours, hybrid work options, or tailored arrangements to suit your lifestyle.

At Hydro Tasmania, you’ll enjoy a range of perks including generous parental leave, salary packaging, electricity discounts, professional development opportunities, and access to vehicles for seamless travel between sites.

As an endorsed employer for women, we actively support diversity and inclusion and have policies and benefits designed to foster a flexible, equitable, and supportive workplace.

Attach your resume and a cover letter outlining what skills and experience you can bring to this role. We will be running an agile recruitment process and will engage with suitable candidates as soon we have reviewed their applications.
