Job summary

Responsibilities

• Monitor production performance and labour costs across activities.

The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of major steel infrastructure packages across large-scale transport construction projects, including bridges, roads, and associated civil infrastructure works. This role is responsible for end-to-end project management, ensuring safe, compliant, and commercially successful outcomes.

You’ll manage complex interfaces across clients, principal contractors, consultants, fabrication workshop teams, and site installation teams, while controlling programme, cost, quality, and risk in line with contract and project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage structural steel fabrication and installation projects to meet scope, quality, budget, and schedule requirements
• Review contract terms and identify and manage commercial and delivery risks
• Manage variations, progress claims, and extensions of time
• Provide safety leadership across workshop and site teams
• Coordinate procurement activities to ensure cost and programme targets are achieved
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and consulting engineers
• Provide clear technical direction to workshop and site teams to ensure compliant and efficient delivery
• Monitor production performance and labour costs across key project activities
• Identify opportunities to improve fabrication and installation methodologies
• Participate in client meetings and design reviews, managing changes as required
• Maintain accurate project records, reporting, and lessons learned documentation

About You

You are an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in structural steel fabrication and construction. You bring a practical, solutions-focused approach and are confident managing both workshop and site-based project delivery.

You bring

• 5 + years’ experience in structural steel project management
• Strong background in fabrication, mechanical assembly, or structural steel delivery
• Experience managing both workshop fabrication and on-site installation teams
• Solid understanding of construction methodologies and sequencing
• Experience managing contracts, variations, and commercial outcomes
• Ability to develop and manage project schedules (Microsoft Project or similar)
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage across multiple stakeholders

Highly regarded

• Trade qualification (Boilermaker or similar) or tertiary qualification in Mechanical/Structural Engineering
• Experience delivering projects for Tier 1 contractors or within infrastructure, mining, or resources sectors
• Experience with first principles estimating for fabrication and construction works
• Strong knowledge of welding procedures and relevant standards
