Job summary

W3Global is seeking an experienced Project Manager/Project Engineer to lead electrical and engineering projects across workshop and customer mine sites in Queensland. You will work with customers, engineering teams, supervisors and suppliers to ensure safe, commercial and technically sound delivery.

Depending on background, the role can be structured at either Project Manager or Project Engineer level. Experience in underground mining and electrical systems is essential for success in this

Responsibilities

• Owns projects from handover through engineering, procurement, production, testing, site delivery and close-out
• Manages scope, programme, budget and commercial performance
• Develops project schedules and delivery plans
• Coordinates engineering, procurement, workshop production and site activities
• Interfaces with mine-site engineers and maintenance personnel
• Manages customer communication, meetings and reporting
• Reviews drawings, specifications and scopes of work
• Identifies risks and resolves issues to protect delivery
• Coordinates labour, materials, subcontractors and suppliers
• Monitors costs and forecasted cost to complete
• Supports estimating and tender activities
• Oversees FATs, inspections, testing, commissioning and handover
• Ensures documentation and MDR requirements are met
• Works with workshop supervisors to remove production constraints
• Conducts site visits and supports commissioning activities

Job description

This is a hands-on project delivery position with responsibility for managing electrical and engineering projects across workshop and customer mine sites.

You will work directly with customers, engineering teams, supervisors, tradespeople, suppliers and management to ensure projects are delivered safely, commercially and technically.

Depending on your background, the position can be structured around either a Project Manager or Project Engineer level appointment.

Projects may include:

• Underground electrical equipment overhauls and upgrades
• Flameproof substations, DCBs and electrical distribution equipment
• Belt starter and control system projects
• Electrical manufacturing and switchboard/control panel projects
• Underground equipment modifications and engineering upgrades
• Site installations and commissioning
• Compliance testing and electrical audits
• Shutdown and maintenance projects
• Equipment rebuilds and major workshop projects
• Customer-specific engineering and improvement projects

What You'll Be Responsible For

You will take ownership of projects from handover through engineering, procurement, production, testing, site delivery and close-out.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing project scope, programme, budget and commercial performance
• Developing project schedules, milestones and delivery plans
• Coordinating engineering, procurement, workshop production and site activities
• Working directly with mine-site engineering and maintenance personnel
• Managing customer communication, meetings, reporting and project expectations
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and technical documentation
• Identifying project risks and resolving issues before they impact delivery
• Coordinating labour, materials, subcontractors and suppliers
• Monitoring project costs, committed expenditure, labour hours and forecast cost to complete
• Managing RFIs, technical clarifications and customer approvals
• Identifying and managing scope changes and variations
• Supporting estimating and tender preparation for new projects
• Coordinating FATs, inspections, testing, commissioning and project handover
• Ensuring project documentation, quality records and MDR requirements are completed correctly
• Working closely with workshop supervisors and tradespeople to remove production constraints
• Conducting site visits and supporting installation and commissioning activities as required
• Ensuring projects comply with customer requirements, Australian Standards, procedures and applicable mining legislation

About You

Previous experience working within underground mining operations is essential.

You should understand how underground mining projects actually operate - the environment, equipment, safety expectations, operational pressures and the importance of getting equipment back into service.

Ideally, you will have experience in some combination of:

• Underground coal mining
• Electrical engineering or electrical projects
• Underground electrical distribution
• Flameproof and hazardous-area equipment
• Electrical control systems
• Mining maintenance or engineering departments
