Job summary

AusNet in Melbourne seeks a Project Manager – Development to lead early-stage planning and development of transmission projects, shaping business cases and aligning scope with regulatory requirements.

You will guide cross-functional teams, manage timelines and budgets, and ensure that customer, community and environmental outcomes are embedded in project design and delivery. The role is based in Southbank with a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Business, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in electricity transmission or energy infrastructure development (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, and manage delivery of strategic initiatives and projects across the development lifecycle.
  • Provide inputs to business cases including scope, cost estimation, risk, and scheduling.
  • Deliver project schedules, milestones, and deliverables aligned to business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Apply proactive risk management to safeguard timelines, budgets and outcomes.
  • Conduct project health checks and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure customer, community and environmental outcomes are embedded in project design and delivery.
  • Build strong relationships across AusNet divisions and with external stakeholders.

We are seeking a Project Manager – Development to lead the early-stage planning and development of transmission projects, with a strong focus on providing critical inputs to business case development.

You will play a key role in shaping project scope, timelines, and feasibility—ensuring each initiative is strategically aligned and set up for long-term success. You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver quality outcomes.

With a Hybrid working arrangement, this role is based in Southbank and is part of the Project Delivery team within the Transmission line of business.

What you’ll be doing in this role:
  • Lead, plan, and manage the delivery of strategic initiatives and projects across the project development lifecycle
  • Provide key inputs to business case development, including support for scope definition, cost estimation, risk identification, and scheduling
  • Deliver project schedules, milestones, and deliverables with business objectives and within regulatory requirements
  • Apply proactive risk management practices to safeguard timelines, budgets, and outcomes
  • Conduct project health checks and provide clear, actionable recommendations
  • Ensure customer needs, community expectations, and environmental outcomes are embedded in project design and delivery
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships across AusNet divisions and with external stakeholders
You don't need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
  • Demonstrated experience in electricity transmission or energy infrastructure development (preferred)
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships across internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex projects to time, budget, quality, and safety standards
  • Strong capability in contributing to business case inputs and supporting strategic investment decisions
  • Commitment to safety, sustainability, and community outcomes
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills
  • Effective interpersonal, negotiating and facilitating skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Business, or equivalent
  • Certification with the Australian Institute of Project Management (preferred)
