Job summary

HEH Civil in Cairns region seeks an accomplished Project Manager to provide strategic oversight of civil construction projects from inception to completion. You will drive delivery, manage risk and commercial outcomes, and mentor project teams.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will build key client relationships, contribute to business development, ensure compliance, and shape the company’s project delivery capability through leadership development programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in civil construction project management, with at least 5 years in a multi-project leadership role.
  • Experience managing projects for Tier 1 clients and TMR, including contract administration and dispute resolution.
  • Proven track record in civil infrastructure delivery (roads, bridges, drainage, water/sewer, bulk earthworks, urban development).
  • Strong commercial acumen with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting experience.
  • Proven leadership with mentoring and developing project teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills at all levels.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (MS Project, Workbench or similar).
  • Knowledge of Australian building codes, WH&S legislation, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across a portfolio of projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of multiple concurrent civil construction projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery to quality standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and project teams to grow capability.
  • Manage project risk, commercial outcomes, and contractual obligations across the portfolio.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Tier 1 clients, TMR, local government, and key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to business development including tender preparation, pricing reviews, and client engagement.
  • Oversee project planning, programming, and resource allocation to maximise efficiency.
  • Review and approve project budgets, forecasts, progress claims, and variations.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and drive safety culture on sites.
  • Coordinate procurement strategies for subcontractors, materials, and plant.
  • Report project performance, KPIs and escalations to leadership team.
  • Champion continuous improvement in project delivery processes and standards.
