Job summary

Geosyntec is seeking a Project Hydrogeologist to join our Water Resources Team in Australia. The role involves fieldwork design, groundwater monitoring, data interpretation, and 3D geospatial modelling using Leapfrog and GIS tools.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on mine tailings, water management, and environmental projects across Australia. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in geology or related field, with MSc in hydrogeology preferred, 2+ years consulting experience,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology/earth science/hydrology or related field (required)
  • Post graduate MSc or similar in hydrogeology (preferred)
  • 2+ years direct consulting experience (required) or graduates with hydrogeology qualifications
  • 3-5 years of consulting experience (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams (preferred)
  • Experience with fieldwork on remote sites (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills (required)
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and travel to client facilities as needed

Responsibilities

  • Involvement in design and execution of fieldwork programs: drilling supervision, groundwater monitoring and sampling
  • Analyze groundwater and geological data critically
  • Geospatial analysis using GIS and 3D modelling (Leapfrog)

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Project Hydrogeologist to join our Water Resources Team. We seek motivated professionals to support our strong and growing project pipeline.

Our projects include:

  • Large Storage Facility Design – New, Existing, and Closure Life-cycle phases
  • Mine site infrastructure design and water management
  • Contaminated site groundwater management and remediation
  • Pumped hydroelectric projects
  • Mine dewatering assessments
  • Civil / construction dewatering assessments
  • Water balance studies
  • Environmental impact assessments and investigations
  • Site groundwater risk reviews and third-party groundwater reviews
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Be involved in the design and/or execution of fieldwork programs including:
    • Drilling supervision and geotechnical logging
    • Groundwater monitoring and sampling
    • Groundwater well installation and hydraulic testing
    • Pit Lake and Surface Water Sampling
  • Critical analysis and assessment of groundwater and geological related data;
  • Geospatial and 3D analysis – including GIS and Leapfrog (3D modelling);
  • Preparing informative and interpretive maps, tables, and figures;
  • Preparation of technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals; and
  • Training: This position requires health and safety, first aid and other on-the-job training. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our employees to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants. Further training to enhance skills on specialist software will also be provided e.g. Leapfrog, SEEPW, GIS, MODFLOW, etc.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology/earth science/geochemistry/hydrology or engineering or related field of study (required)
  • Post graduate MSc or similar in hydrogeology (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 2 of direct consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required). However, graduates can be considered if they possess post-graduate Hydrogeology qualifications.
  • 3-5 years of consulting experience. (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (preferred)
  • Experience having completed fieldwork, including remote sites. (preferred).
  • Demonstrated success in teamwork. (preferred)
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting deadlines and budgets, and traveling to client facilities as needed

Highly regarded skills & experience:

  • Post graduate MSc or similar in hydrogeology (highly preferred)
  • Strong GIS skills - ArcGIS, QGIS, Leapfrog or Surfer (preferred)
  • Strong data handling and manipulation skills, and data analysis (preferred)
  • Experience assisting with groundwater assessments and site conceptual model development (preferred)
  • Fieldwork experience – drilling supervision, logging, testing, sampling, monitoring (preferred)
