REPT BATTERO is seeking an experienced Project Finance Controller to own project-level financial control across our BESS portfolio in Australia. Hybrid work arrangement with Sydney/Melbourne.

You will partner with development, construction, and commercial teams to ensure robust modeling, reporting, and cost discipline throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires 6–10 years in project or corporate finance, with strong Excel modeling skills and familiarity with NEM dynamics.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce with professional qualification preferred.
• 6–10 years in project finance or corporate finance, renewable energy preferred.
• Deep understanding of project finance structures and financial modeling.
• Experience with ERP and project cost tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Analyze investment opportunities and conduct financial due diligence.

Project Finance Controller – BESS (Australia)

Title: Project Finance Controller – Battery Energy Storage (BESS)

Location: Sydney / Melbourne, Australia (hybrid)

Reports to: VP Finance, Overseas Business

Company Overview

We are a fast-growing developer, owner-operator, and investor in grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the National Electricity Market (NEM). With a 2+ GWh pipeline of large-scale battery projects reaching financial close and construction over the next 24 months, we are seeking an experienced Project Finance Controller to own project-level financial control across the project lifecycle — from development through construction, commissioning, and long-term operations, in addition to new investment opportunity analysis.

Role Purpose

As Project Finance Controller, you will be the financial custodian for our Australian BESS project portfolio (held within ring-fenced SPVs). You will partner with development, construction, commercial, and asset management teams to ensure robust financial modeling, accurate project reporting, disciplined cost control, and timely compliance with lender and investor covenants.

Key Responsibilities

Project Finance

• Analyze new investment opportunities, participate in the bidding process, and conduct financial due diligence
• Prepare and present project-level performance packs to investment committee, lenders, and equity partners.
• Build and maintain project financial models (DCF, CAPEX, OPEX, revenue, debt service, DSRA, distributions etc.).

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control

• Lead annual budget and quarterly reforecast cycles for each BESS project, engaging EPC, O&M, and commercial leads.
• Track construction CAPEX against EPC contract milestones and identify variances, risks, and change orders.
• Monitor OPEX (warehousing, market access fees, O&M, legal, insurance, land lease) and flag trends.
• Oversee credit terms and bad debt risks, assisting sales in expediting accounts receivable recovery

Stakeholder & Compliance

• Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and joint-venture partners on project-level financial matters.
• Support financial due diligence, tax structuring, and model updates for new project financings and refinancings.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline; CA / CPA / CPA preferred.
• 6–10 years of relevant experience in project finance or corporate finance preferably in infrastructure, energy, or utilities sectors— with at least 2–3 years specifically in renewable energy or BESS.
• Deep understanding of project finance structures
• Hands-on experience building and auditing financial models in Excel.
• Familiarity with NEM dynamics, FCAS markets, PPAs, or energy trading/revenue models is strongly preferred.
• Strong financial modeling analysis.
• High attention to detail with a solutions-oriented mindset.
• Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and project cost tools (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore).
