Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Chile, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

Job Summary

As a Project Engineering Manager you will be responsible for leading a team and for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating the engineering technical aspects for complex projects. You will participate in project planning, proposal review, and will own the engineering elements of capital estimates. Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget.

Major Responsibilities

• Providing engineering support for major proposals.
• Developing proposals for minor studies and projects.
• Carrying out due‑diligence reviews and audits of engineering on studies and projects.
• Responsible for multiple small projects or designated medium to large sized complex engineering assignments within a global business unit.
• Possessing full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments.
• Participating in project planning prior to proposals to provide technical guidance in the engineering and construction review of proposals.
• Providing input to and owning the engineering elements of a project capital estimate (proposals and execution) quantities and budgets.
• Reviewing major changes or deviations in project scope, project material quantities, budget or schedule, and assisting particularly with defining the change, obtaining accurate estimates of the hours involved, and recommending budget adjustment.
• Ensuring engineering efforts with Project Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) and Project Controls.
• Directing the preparation of project studies, reports, forecasts, special engineering reports and plant data book.

Education and Experience Requirements

Requires bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 13‑15 years of relevant experience or 17‑19 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Experience in design development, feasibility studies, detailed design, proposal development, and in managing design consultants, including scoping, technical specifications, tender evaluations, design review, and construction supervision.
• Extensive background in industrial construction projects, managing staff, providing leadership, maintaining good client relationships and developing talent within the project; computer‑literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Familiar with current industry quality standards.
• Advanced knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
