Job summary

SIMPEC Pty Ltd is seeking a Project Engineer (SMP) to join the construction team on the Alcoa Pinjarra project in Australia. The role is site-based, Monday to Friday, approximately 8+ months with potential extension to other SMP projects.

The engineer will oversee procurement and construction activities, provide technical guidance, prepare work and test packs, and ensure integration across quality, commercial, HSE and controls teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• 3+ years in mining construction role with structural steel erection, mechanical and piping installation.
• Experience in managing, raising, and responding to RFIs and TQs.
• Excellent time management and ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to work autonomously within a collaborative team, proactive and takes initiative.
• Contractor-side SMP construction project experience.
• Strong understanding of construction estimating and cost control (First Principles estimating, Productivity Factor, Cost Code allocation).

Responsibilities

• Implement, maintain, coordinate, and expediting procurement and construction elements for the designated work area.
• Identify and resolve technical engineering issues during the project duration.
• Provide technical support and guidance to the project team.
• Create work packs, test packs; estimation and site variations.
• Develop, prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor specifications for all equipment required for each construction stage.
• Integrate the engineering team’s work with other project departments (quality, commercial, HSE, supervision, employee relations, project controls).
• Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel performance) and report project status.

SIMPEC have been awarded the main procurement and construction contract for the residue filtration stage 2 project at Alcoa's Pinjarra Alumina Refinery, which will involve delivering infrastructure and services to increase processing capacity.

We're seeking a Project Engineer (SMP) to join our construction team at Alcoa Pinjarra to oversee and facilitate day to day engineering support. This role will be commencing asap and will be site-based Monday - Friday with a duration of approximately 8+ months and an opportunity to roll across to other projects thereafter.

The Role:

About You:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 3 years+ experience in a similar role in Mining Construction – involving structural steel erection, mechanical and piping installation.
• Experienced in managing, raising, and responding to RFI’s and TQ’s.
• Excellent time management skills and a strong ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to effectively work autonomously within a collaborative team, be proactive and able to take initiative
• Contractor side experience in SMP construction projects.
• Good understand of construction estimating and cost controlling i.e. First Principle estimating, Productivity Factor and Cost Code allocation
