Job summary

Verra Recruitment is recruiting for Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer roles on road and bridge upgrades across regional Queensland. FIFO arrangements apply, with a contractor-backed pipeline of civil works and a focus on delivery rather than distant oversight.

You’ll work with PMs and site teams, taking ownership of packages or broader project duties depending on level, and you’ll be closely involved in planning, coordination and client liaison across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Civil engineering qualifications with contractor-side civil infrastructure experience.
• Experience across roads, bridges, drainage, pavements or earthworks is desirable.
• Ability to work closely with Supervisors, PMs and site teams.
• Comfort working on FIFO regional Queensland projects.

Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer – Road & Bridge Upgrades

We’re working with an established civil contractor who have a solid run of work coming up across regional Queensland and are looking to add another couple of engineers to the team.

There’s scope for both a Project Engineer and Senior Project Engineer, so we’re happy to speak with people at slightly different levels.

The bulk of the upcoming work is across road and bridge upgrades, with plenty of associated civil works including drainage, culverts, pavements, earthworks and plenty of concrete structures.

A lot of the projects are based in regional and remote areas, so this will suit someone who is comfortable with FIFO work across Queensland and likes being properly involved in delivery rather than sitting too far removed from site.

The Role

You’ll be working closely with the PMs and site teams across the day-to-day delivery of projects, with the level of responsibility shaped around your experience.

For a Project Engineer, that could mean taking ownership of individual packages and helping drive the programme.

For a Senior Project Engineer, there’ll be more ownership across the broader project, coordination of junior engineers and a bit more involvement commercially and with the client.

Typical responsibilities will include:

• Managing subcontractors and suppliers
• Coordinating works with Supervisors and site teams
• QA, ITPs and project documentation
• Programming and planning upcoming works
• Procurement and material coordination
• Tracking quantities, costs and variations
• Assisting with commercial reporting and project performance
• Liaising with clients, consultants and other stakeholders
• Helping make sure the project keeps moving and issues are dealt with early

What We’re Looking

Ideally, you’ll have a Civil Engineering qualification and some solid contractor-side experience across civil infrastructure, a backgrounds across roads, bridges, structures, drainage, pavements or earthworks will all be relevant.

More importantly, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable being close to site, can work well with Supervisors and PMs, and can take ownership without needing everything handed to them.

You’ll also need to be comfortable with FIFO and working across regional project locations.
