Job summary

Seymour Whyte is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our national pre-contracts team in a project engineer role. You will help develop winning tender submissions for major civil infrastructure projects, then transition to site delivery to bring projects to life.

You will gain exposure to the full lifecycle, from bid to build, working with estimators, bid managers and specialists to deliver outcomes for clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent is required.
• Experience on civil infrastructure construction projects is expected.
• Exposure to pre-contracts, estimating, tendering or project delivery activities is desirable.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction methodologies.
• Experience with planning, programming, budgets and forecasting.
• Collaborative approach and a genuine desire to learn.

Responsibilities

• During tender phase: review tender documentation, specifications and client requirements.
• Develop construction methodologies, staging and delivery strategies.
• Assist with quantities, subcontractor pricing and vendor analysis.
• Support design reviews and identify opportunities for innovation and value engineering.
• Contribute to tender submissions, methodologies, programmes and planning documentation.
• Work with estimators, bid managers and operations to develop competitive bids.
• Post-award: coordinate engineering and construction activities on major civil infra projects.
• Manage subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders.
• Monitor progress, budgets and forecasts.
• Support project planning, programming and reporting.
• Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and per specs.
• Assist in achieving project objectives from start to finish.

We're looking for a Civil Engineer who wants more than a traditional project delivery role. Joining our national pre-contracts team in project engineer role, you'll be working alongside estimators, bid managers and technical specialists to develop winning tender submissions for major civil infrastructure projects. Once a project is secured, you'll transition to site and become part of the delivery team, helping bring the project to life from the ground up.

This unique role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, giving you invaluable insight into what it takes to win work, manage risk, develop innovative construction methodologies, and ultimately deliver successful outcomes for our clients. The role combines responsibilities across work winning and ultimately project delivery.

About The Role

During the tender phase, you will:

Following project award, you will transition into a site-based engineering role where you will:

• Coordinate engineering and construction activities on major civil infrastructure projects
• Manage subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders
• Monitor progress, productivity, budgets and forecasts
• Support project planning, programming and reporting
• Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications
• Assist in the successful delivery of project objectives from commencement through to completion

About You

We're looking for someone who has exposure to both project delivery and pre-contracts environments, or a Project Engineer who is eager to broaden their experience into tendering and work winning.

You'll Bring

• A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent
• Experience working on civil infrastructure construction projects
• Exposure to either pre-contracts, estimating, tendering or project delivery activities, with an interest in developing capability across both
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction methodologies
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• The ability to analyse technical information and solve complex problems
• Experience with planning, programming, budgets and forecasting
• A collaborative approach and a genuine desire to learn
