Job summary

Macquarie Data Centres is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead major capital infrastructure projects from design to commissioning. You will own a portfolio of multi-million-dollar programs, work with hyperscale customers and executive stakeholders, and shape PMO governance and delivery frameworks.

This role requires proven leadership, strong governance, and a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget in a fast-paced, high-security environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading major capital infrastructure projects.
• Senior PM on large capital investment portfolios.
• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management (or equivalent).
• Strong governance, risk, scheduling and stage-gate delivery knowledge.
• Experience budgeting, forecasting and financial controls.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of some of Australia's most significant mission-critical infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Executive General Manager you'll take ownership of a portfolio of major capital programs, from design and construction through to commissioning and operational readiness.

This is a highly visible leadership role where you'll work alongside hyperscale customers, executive stakeholders, consultants and delivery partners to ensure complex, multi-million-dollar projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Beyond project delivery, you'll play a key role in shaping and maturing our Project Management Office (PMO), strengthening governance, reporting and delivery frameworks that will support the continued growth of our Data Centre business.

About You

• Extensive experience leading major capital infrastructure projects within data centres or other mission-critical environments (essential)
• A proven track record delivering complex projects from concept through to commissioning and operational handover.
• Strong commercial acumen with experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets, forecasting and financial reporting.
• Experienced in building trusted relationships with executive stakeholders, customers, contractors and consultants.
• A proven track record delivering a quality outcome on time and on budget.
• Confident leading multidisciplinary teams while influencing outcomes across matrix environments.
• Passionate about developing project governance, improving delivery frameworks and driving operational excellence.
• Calm under pressure with exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Customer-focused with a collaborative leadership style and a commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes.
• Comfortable working in a fast-growing, agile business where no two projects are the same.

Required Skills

• Extensive experience delivering major data centre, critical infrastructure or large-scale construction projects.
• Senior Program or Project Management experience across large capital investment portfolios.
• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management (or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of project governance, risk management, scheduling and stage-gate delivery methodologies.
• Experience managing project commercials including budgeting, forecasting and financial controls.
• Demonstrated contract negotiation and supplier management experience.
• Strong understanding of mission-critical infrastructure including power, cooling, MEP systems and commissioning.
• Experience working with enterprise, wholesale or hyperscale customers.
• Knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942 and data centre best practice (highly regarded).
• PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent Project Management certification (desirable).
• Proven leadership capability with the ability to coach, mentor and build high-performing project teams.
• Outstanding communication and executive stakeholder management skills.
