At WSP, you can access our global scale, work on landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field. Together, we can create a positive and lasting impact on communities and the environment.

We’re looking for a Project Controller to join our Mine Advisory team. This is an opportunity to play a key onshore role in supporting the delivery of complex Mine Advisory projects across Australia while helping drive strong project performance, financial outcomes, and client value.

The opportunity

You’ll work closely with Team Executives, Project Managers, offshore GCC and finance partners to support a portfolio of projects from a delivery and performance perspective. This role is central to ensuring projects run smoothly, from financial tracking and reporting through to identifying risks and opportunities across the portfolio.

What you’ll do
  • Contribute to successful portfolio delivery in accordance with Project Management best practices and effectively engage with clients and stakeholders
  • Apply Project Controls, Contracts Administration and Cost Control and Planning into project systems and processes on multiple work packages.
  • Create and maintain project and portfolio initiation and governance by establishing workflows, project structures, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), cost codes and fit-for-purpose control frameworks within relevant systems.
  • Partner with the Project Manager and project team to create and monitor budgets, validate invoicing, support project close-out, and reconcile overall project payables and receivables
  • Support progress measurement through maintaining budgets, cost estimates, forecasting and earned value analysis by integrating schedule information provided by the Scheduler in consultation with the Project Manager.
  • Support analysis of schedule impacts arising from scope changes, productivity shifts and emerging risks, and communicate potential impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain project files, documentation and governance requirements in accordance with internal and client standards, and support project reviews, audits and stewardship activities.
  • Play a key role in the performance of the project team to meet client outcomes, deliver tangible benefits, and maintain profitability
  • Assist with weekly time tracking and reporting
  • Champion excellent health, safety, and quality practice
  • Liaise with Project Finance Specialists (PFS) to undertake budget updates
  • Assist with procurement activities to ensure suppliers are properly approved and engaged
  • Provide financial updates for monthly and quarterly reports, including preparation of information for Team Executives to support decision making
  • Attend project review meetings with Team Executives, maintaining action tracking and follow-up
  • Review project and pipeline portfolios to identify “red flags,” including overdue or pending items
  • Escalate project issues with delegated authority from Business Unit leadership
  • Support initiatives to enhance service delivery and client experience, inclusive of the Mine Advisory GCC integration.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process gaps and recommending solutions
About you

You’re a proactive, systems-minded professional who enjoys working with project data, creating clarity, and supporting high-performing teams.

You will bring:
  • 2 - 6 years’ experience applying coordination or project and cost control skills
  • Working knowledge of project management principles (e.g. PMI framework)
  • Project controls and/or junior project reporting experience
  • Knowledge of cost control and/or cost reporting systems, procedures and practices
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, and P6 software.
  • Experience in a consulting environment and/or PMP certification (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience supporting project or program delivery across multiple concurrent tasks
  • Ability to interpret and work across various data sources, systems, and trackers with a high level of accuracy
  • Confident engagement with technical teams and internal stakeholders
