Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead a team to develop and manage a safety and health program for a complex project, ensuring safety and health requirements are integrated in planning, design, construction, and operations. You will provide technical guidance to project leads, evaluate trends, and conduct assessments and inspections. Your team will help achieve continuous improvement in project safety.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Supervises a safety services program, or a major component of it, inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
  • Supervises assigned safety personnel and provides guidance on their work activities.
  • Provides technical support within ESH teams and to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Operations, Legal, Contracts, Procurement, Management, and other functions regarding ESH program execution.
  • Ensures that safety and health requirements are integrated within bid proposals, planning documents, design criteria, construction and commissioning plans, schedules, and subcontract documents.
  • Prepares, or helps prepare, Safety and Health Management Plans and awareness and training programs in compliance with Bechtel standards, the ESH Management System, and contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Emphasizes and uses risk assessment, data analysis, and Bechtel’s ESH Management System to help track and achieve continual improvement.
  • Prepares technical and regulatory reports, researches issues to support ESH program execution, evaluates data, and reports performance trends.
  • Participates in ESH emergency preparedness planning and confirms investigation and resolution of safety and health incidents.
  • Builds and maintains working relationships with stakeholders and addresses their issues.
  • Participates in and leads meetings with customers, team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements
  • Facilitates execution of the safety component of a health and safety program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects for assigned area
  • Drafts and implements Safety and Health Management Plans, associated plans and procedures, and training program
  • Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups involving significant safety and health issues, risks, and techniques to reduce adverse impacts on the project
  • Researches complex issues and regulatory requirements, performs studies and risk assessments, and prepares documentation and reports
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Minimum of ten years of WHS professional experience in heavy construction or infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting incident investigations, compliance audits and project health surveys
  • Previous Senior Advisor/Supervisory experience is essential
  • ICAM or TapRoot Certificate preferred
