Job description

Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner

Make a meaningful difference. Be part of a team that believes behaviour support should create real change.

Are you a Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner looking for an organisation where your expertise is valued, your ideas are encouraged, and you can see the impact of your work?

We have been working within the NDIS for more than 8 years and have developed a strong understanding of what it takes to create meaningful and sustainable outcomes for participants.

We have seen too often that behaviour support can become heavily focused on assessments and report writing, without enough emphasis on implementation, coaching, data collection and what actually happens in the participant's everyday environment.

We believe behaviour support needs to go further.

Our approach is centred on practical implementation, collaboration and measurable outcomes. We believe meaningful change happens when practitioners work alongside participants, families, support teams and other professionals to turn recommendations into strategies that are understood, consistently implemented and embedded into everyday life.

We are looking for a practitioner who shares this vision and wants to be part of building something that makes a genuine difference.

About the Role

As a Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality, person-centred behaviour support across a diverse range of participants.

You will be expected to bring your professional expertise to the table while also being willing to get on the floor, work alongside support teams, observe what is happening in real time, collect meaningful data and actively implement your recommendations.

This is a role for a practitioner who understands that writing a good Behaviour Support Plan is only the beginning.

You will work collaboratively with participants, families, support workers and other professionals to:

  • Develop practical, evidence-informed behaviour support strategies.
  • Implement your own recommendations and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Provide hands-on coaching and mentoring to support workers and families.
  • Observe participants in their everyday environments and collect meaningful data.
  • Build the confidence and capability of support teams.
  • Identify environmental and systemic factors that may be contributing to behaviours of concern.
  • Support teams to understand why behaviour occurs, rather than simply responding to the behaviour itself.
  • Review outcomes and adapt strategies when something is not working.
  • Facilitate collaborative problem-solving and encourage creative approaches.
  • Have respectful but courageous conversations when change is required.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary and wraparound support team.
  • Maintain high-quality clinical documentation and behaviour support plans consistent with NDIS requirements and professional standards.
  • Engage in regular supervision, reflection and ongoing professional development.
The Participants We Support

We are particularly interested in practitioners who have developed strong expertise and a genuine passion for supporting people across the Autism Spectrum, including participants with mild through to severe intellectual disability and complex diagnostic profiles.

You understand that no two participants are the same and that effective behaviour support cannot be delivered through a one-size-fits-all approach.

You are curious, flexible and willing to think beyond traditional approaches to find strategies that are meaningful and achievable for the individual.

What We Believe

We believe behaviour is communication.

We believe every person has the right to experience choice, control, dignity, independence and meaningful participation in their own life.

We believe behaviour support should focus on improving a person's quality of life, not simply reducing behaviours of concern.

We believe sustainable change requires more than a written recommendation. It requires relationships, consistency, coaching, implementation, data and a team that is willing to work together.

And we believe the best practitioners are those who have the courage to have difficult conversations, the humility to listen and reflect, and the curiosity to keep learning.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a practitioner who:

  • Is an experienced and proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner within the NDIS.
  • Has a Cert IV in disability or Bachelor in Psychology/ social work or equivalent
  • Has strong clinical reasoning and can translate assessment findings into practical strategies.
  • Has extensive experience supporting people with Autism and intellectual disability, including complex support needs.
  • Applicant is confident providing hands-on, implementation-focused support.
  • Can implement and evaluate their own recommendations.
  • Is confident collecting and interpreting data in real-world environments.
  • Can coach and build the capability and confidence of support workers.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can build strong relationships with participants, families, support workers and other professionals.
  • Is comfortable navigating challenging or sensitive conversations.
  • Has the courage to respectfully challenge practices when participant outcomes or quality of life may be compromised.
  • Can think creatively and outside the box while maintaining evidence-informed practice.
  • Is highly organised and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Is reflective and actively engages in professional supervision.
  • Demonstrates humility, emotional maturity and a willingness to continue learning.
  • Is genuinely committed to being part of a team, rather than working in isolation.
  • Takes ownership of outcomes and follows through on recommendations.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who cares about whether their work actually makes a difference.

What We Offer
A Connected Team

Behaviour support can be an isolating profession. We are committed to creating a culture where practitioners feel supported, connected and part of a team.
You will have access to collaboration, clinical support and colleagues who understand the challenges and rewards of working in this space.

Professional Development & Growth

We believe that investing in our people is essential.
We want you to continue developing as a practitioner and will support opportunities for professional development, supervision, learning and career growth.

The Opportunity to Make a Real Difference

This is an opportunity to work in an organisation that wants to move beyond simply producing quality reports.
We want to see implementation, capability building and meaningful outcomes for participants.

Is This You?

You are an experienced Behaviour Support Practitioner who wants more than a caseload and a list of reports.

You want to be connected to the people you support, connected to your team and connected to the outcomes you are working towards.

You are confident in your expertise but humble enough to keep learning.

You don't give up when something isn't working, you look for another way.

You believe in teamwork, accountability and practical implementation.

And you want to be part of a team that is genuinely committed to doing better for the people we support.
