Job summary

Alcon in Mulgrave (Melbourne) is seeking a Production Technician to join a fast-paced, precision manufacturing team assembling and testing micro-optical and electromechanical systems.

You will work a 2pm–10pm shift, perform assembly, routine testing and QC documentation, and collaborate with Engineering and NPI for prototype builds. Strong attention to detail and GMP experience preferred; training provided.

Qualifications

• High school with strong results in science or technology subjects.
• Technical certification in electronics, mechatronics, optical technology/photonics or precision manufacturing.
• GMP experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assemble micro-optical and electromechanical components following detailed work instructions.
• Operate custom automation equipment for precision assembly.
• Troubleshoot sub-assemblies and report quality issues.
• Collaborate with Engineering and NPI teams for prototype builds.
• Contribute to 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.

To support this growth, we are looking to add to our talented team of Production Technicians at our Mulgrave(Melbourne) site.

About the Role

As a Production Technician, you will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment assembling and testing precision micro-optical and electromechanical systems.

We are looking for candidates who prefer night shifts from 2pm - 10pm.

Key responsibilities include

• Assembling complex micro-optical and electromechanical components following detailed work instructions.
• Operating custom automation equipment for precision assembly processes.
• Troubleshooting sub-assemblies and reporting quality issues.
• Collaborating with Engineering and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams for prototype builds.
• Contributing to 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

We are looking for detail-oriented professionals with a passion for precision manufacturing.

Essential/Highly Recommended Qualifications & Skills

Formal Education (Desirable but not Essential)

• High School Certificate with strong results in science or technology subjects.
• A technical certification in one of the following fields:

• Electronics
• Mechanical Engineering Technology
• Mechatronics
• Optical Technology/Photonics
• Precision Manufacturing

Technical Skills

• Expertise in precision assembly techniques.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read and follow complex work instructions and technical drawings.
• Experience with clean room operations (desirable).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
