Job summary

Alcon in Melbourne is seeking a Production Technician to join a fast-paced, precision manufacturing team, assembling and testing micro-optical and electromechanical systems. The role focuses on night shift from 2pm to 10pm, with responsibilities spanning from following detailed work instructions to operating automation equipment and collaborating with Engineering/NPI for prototype builds.

Ideal candidates have high attention to detail, experience with precision assembly, and familiarity with GMP

Qualifications

• Formal Education (Desirable): High School Certificate with strong results in science or technology subjects.
• Technical certification in Electronics or Mechanical/Mechatronics/Optical/Photonics/Precision Manufacturing is desirable.
• Experience with precision assembly, hand tools, and reading complex work instructions is required or desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assemble complex micro-optical and electromechanical components following detailed work instructions.
• Operate custom automation equipment for precision assembly processes.
• Troubleshoot sub-assemblies and report quality issues.
• Collaborate with Engineering and NPI teams for prototype builds.
• Contribute to 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role

As a Production Technician, you will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment assembling and testing precision micro-optical and electromechanical systems.

We are looking for qualified production technicians who prefer to work night shift from 2pm - 10pm.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assembling complex micro-optical and electromechanical components following detailed work instructions.
• Operating custom automation equipment for precision assembly processes.
• Troubleshooting sub-assemblies and reporting quality issues.
• Collaborating with Engineering and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams for prototype builds.
• Contributing to 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

We are looking for detail-oriented professionals with a passion for precision manufacturing.

Essential/Highly Recommended Qualifications & Skills

Formal Education (Desirable but not Essential):

• High School Certificate with strong results in science or technology subjects.
• A technical certification in one of the following fields:
  • Electronics
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Mechatronics
  • Optical Technology/Photonics
  • Precision Manufacturing

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in precision assembly techniques.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read and follow complex work instructions and technical drawings.
• Experience with clean room operations (desirable).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.

Soft Skills:

• Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• A proactive, adaptable approach to problem-solving.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
