About Sunshine Sugar

We are an Australian owned sugar milling and refining company operating three sugar mills and a refinery in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. The region, known for its stunning beaches, rivers, fishing and natural wonders extends across seven shires including Tweed, Byron Bay, Ballina and the Clarence Valley. Harwood is situated on the Clarence River near the coastal and historical port town of Yamba.

Shift Supervisor (Process) - Harwood Mill & Refinery

The purpose of this role is to lead a shift operations team (10), to ensure that safety, quality and customer service has the focused required. To ensure the plant assets are operating as they should be regarding established operational parameters and quality standards.

Through their team, the Shift Supervisor role has the responsibility of monitoring safety adherence, product quality, customer service in warehouse operations and transport loading, scheduling adherence, team performance, plant efficiency, waste and equipment performance. The role is also required to assist with coordinating loading vehicles, labour management as well as tradespersons during breakdown or maintenance situations.

What’s involved:

• To lead safety, quality, food safety, housekeeping and customer focus as the leader of the shift
• Supervision of people, process and plant equipment across the Sugar Mill, Boiler and Refinery production
• Ensure all activities comply with current Legislation and Regulations as well as organisational policies and procedures
• Ensure quality of product, food safety requirements, packaging and loading management comply with agreed customer as well as Sunshine Sugar specifications
• Performance management and supervision of the Shift teams
• Managing daily schedule, labour management, key performance indicators and plant effectiveness
• Analyse and interpret operational performance data, take corrective action and improve or suggest improvements to the operation to ensure the plant is operated safely and efficiently
• Supervise minor breakdown and maintenance activities when necessary
• Undertake project work as required
• Facilitate, identify, participate, and report on suitable continuous improvement programs or projects

We are looking for:

• Suitable tertiary qualifications (Business, Logistics, Engineering, Chemical or Industrial Chemistry) or experience in supervision in a manufacturing FMCG industrial process servicing customers.
• Experience in managing safety, quality, food safety desirable
• Ideally you will have experience working on rotating shift structure. Our general shift patterns are across 24 x 7 day operation with shift teams operating a 4 days on and 4 days off basis
• High level communication skills both written and verbal
• Performance Management skills or experience using accepted team leadership skills
• Ability to lead from the front, manage by walking around and demonstrated ability in driving accountability
• Ability to trouble shoot problems, identify root causes and develop solutions
• Ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders at different levels within the business
• Project Management Skills or experience would be an advantage
