Private Advertiser in Melbourne’s South-East is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead our sheet-metal fabrication and custom jobbing operations. This hands-on role focuses on delivering quality, safety, and on-time production across fabrication, laser, break-press and welding areas.

You will oversee daily production, plan workflow, allocate resources, and drive continuous improvement while building capability among staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in management within Sheet-Metal/fabrication environments.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication processes (folding, laser, punching, welding).
• Proven ability to lead teams in fast-moving production settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop factory production staff across sheet-metal fabrication and jobbing.
• Plan and manage workflow, capacity and scheduling for short-run and custom work.

About the Business

We are a well-established and growing steel manufacturing business based in Melbourne’s South-East suburbs. Our work focuses on fabrication and custom production across a diverse range of industries including commercial, industrial, architectural and specialist Sheet Metal manufacturing.

Our environment is centered around quality sheet metal fabrication, short-run jobbing, complex custom work and continuous improvement.

Due to growth, we are seeking an experienced hands-on production Manager to lead our manufacturing, factory operations.

About the Role

Reporting to the Directors, you will oversee daily production across fabrication, jobbing, laser machines, Break- press machines, scheduling, warehouse and welding areas, ensuring workflow, quality, delivery and safety targets are achieved in a team environment.

Key responsibilities include:

Lead and develop all factory production staff / teams across Sheet-Metal fabrication and jobbing.

Plan and manage workflow, capacity and scheduling for varied short-run and custom work.

Allocate labor resources and support recruitment where required.

Drive production performance, quality assurance and safety outcomes.

Monitor KPIs including throughput, waste, rework, efficiency and on-time delivery.

Support continuous improvement initiatives across fabrication processes.

Maintain strong OHS standards and promote a positive safety culture.

Lead, production activities, & coordinate with customer service teams, sales, engineering, estimating and other key areas.

About You

We are looking for a super hands-on leader who understands the complexity of Sheet-Metal manufacturing.

You will bring:

5+ years’ strong experience in management and people leadership within Sheet-Metal, machine supervision, and fabrication environment.

Strong knowledge of fabrication processes (folding, laser, punching, welding, assembly, custom jobbing)

Proven ability to manage teams in a fast-moving mixed production environment

High standards around quality, safety and workflow control

Trade or engineering background highly regarded

Strong organisational, communication and computer skills

Most importantly, you are a people-focused leader who enjoys building capability and improving operational performance in a hands-on leadership approach.
