Job description

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Production Horticulturist to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of crop operations, ensuring our high standards of quality and efficiency are met from planting through to harvest. You will be a key player on the ground, working across our 2 farms to help us achieve our production goals.

Benefits, Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage the daily and weekly schedule for crop operations across our Walkaway and Deepdale farms.
  • Lead and train our farm operators in best practices for planting, maintaining, and harvesting our crops, including tomatoes, capsicums, eggplants, and cucumbers.
  • Oversee all land preparation, including soil fumigation and bed formation.
  • Manage our irrigation and drainage systems to ensure optimal water use for our vegetables.
  • Monitor crop health to identify signs of pests or disease and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Safely prepare and apply chemicals as needed to protect crops from weeds, pests, and diseases.
  • Coordinate the harvesting process to ensure our produce is picked at peak quality and meets market standards.
  • Ensure all farm machinery, including tractors and implements, are well-maintained and operational.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of all necessary materials and inputs for ongoing farm operations.
  • Work closely with the farm operation and management teams to implement growing strategies and report on crop progress.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in the agriculture industry is essential.
  • Proven hands-on experience operating and maintaining farm tractors and implements.
  • A solid understanding of crop nutrition, irrigation systems, and pest and disease management for vegetable crops.
  • Must be reliable, possess a strong work ethic, and be able to solve problems effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to work closely with our operation and management teams.
  • Must be able to commute to our Walkaway and Deepdale farms (regional Western Australia).
