Job summary

Plus Also Studios is seeking a Product Engineer to join the Data and Technology team in Melbourne or Sydney. You will lead the Unicorn platform, shaping AI-driven product experiences that help clients create and roll out creative assets across print and digital.

You’ll collaborate with internal users to identify problems, propose features, and guide development from prototype to production, ensuring usability, reliability and strong engineering practices.

What's my job?

Located in our Melbourne or Sydney office, you’re the Product Engineer in the Data and Technology team, leading the build of Unicorn, our platform that helps companies create and roll out creative assets across print and digital. AI is at the core of how Unicorn works, and you'll help shape those systems and turn them into useful, reliable product experiences.

You'll work closely with internal users to understand their problems, identify opportunities and propose new features. You’re someone who can contribute to product discussions, challenge assumptions and then decide what to build and how to build it.

A Day in the Life

• Understand users and shape the product: Work directly with internal users, identify problems and opportunities, propose features and contribute to product direction.
• Take features from prototype through frontend, backend and AI integration, and into production.
• Build polished, intuitive interfaces, with real attention to usability and interaction details.
• Design clear architectures, APIs and data models that stay understandable as the product grows.
• Build AI features with modern models, agents and tool use, backed by the right guardrails, evaluation and observability.
• Improve how we build: Use coding agents effectively, experiment with new models and techniques, and help improve our engineering practices, tools and reusable components.
• Own what you ship: debug production issues and use analytics and user feedback to keep improving.

How will we know you are the one?

• You have mastery of React and Typescript, Databases, CI/CD, auth and cloud infrastructure. You've built products in which AI is deeply embedded.
• Strong experience building and shipping modern software products.
• Excellent frontend skills, with strong UX instincts and a good eye for visual quality.
• Strong software design fundamentals, and the judgment not to over-engineer.
• Good product judgment and the ability to turn ambiguous user problems into practical solutions.
• Experience building AI-enabled products or prototypes, including tool use, structured outputs, context management and evaluation.
• Confidence using coding agents and AI-assisted tools while keeping code quality high.
• Clear communication and strong collaboration with engineers, designers, creatives and users.

Other things that would make you excel in this role

• Familiarity with some of the following would be beneficial: Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, Containers and AI Gateway, MCP servers, SQL databases, PostHog or similar product analytics, CI/CD and automated testing, AI Harnesses, Loop Engineering, and AI image, video or audio.
