Overview
The process technician uses mechanical skills and machine running experience to help set up, monitor, and tear down state-of-the-art poultry processing equipment. The role is also responsible for performing troubleshooting and completing minor adjustments and ensuring equipment is safely operated to deliver a top-quality product to internal / external customers. The position reports to the process supervisor with primary work schedule of Monday–Thursday, day shift, with flexibility to work early/late shift, and overtime with short notice.
Responsibilities
- Safely setting up, operating, and monitoring evisceration (Evis) equipment and conveying systems to ensure product flow. Equipment includes venters, opener, cropper, etc.
- Remove/install components such as blades at beginning/end of shift.
- Inspect machine parts and cutting apparatus to ensure good working condition.
- Check machines and make appropriate adjustments to maximize efficiencies.
- Collaborate with maintenance to PM, troubleshoot, service equipment.
- Assist Maintenance in identifying worn parts that need replacement.
- Check machines operation and rotations before production start up.
- Operate with a safety-first mindset; complete ongoing housekeeping to meet food safety standards.
- Work within GMP, safety, and USDA guidelines to achieve top quality in a safe work environment.
- Spray machines down during break and at end of shift.
- Clear machines during production to eliminate product hang-ups.
- Properly clean and sanitize components per SSOP before installation and after removal.
- Willingly learn new skills, cross-train others, and work to improve process flow.
- Perform other assigned duties as directed.
Education
High school diploma or GED (Min.).
Experience
Working knowledge/experience in food processing or related field (Poultry processing - preferred). Machine setup and operation experience (required).
Skills / Abilities / Attributes
- Working knowledge in poultry or other food processing industry.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience operating and troubleshooting equipment.
- Solid understanding of food safety compliance (required).
- Self-directed; able to work in fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.
- Team player and natural leader with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
- Lift/move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop 10–12 hrs./shift.
- Work safely in hot, cold, wet environment with varying temperatures (e.g., 35–40 / 100 degrees).
