Job summary

PCR Talent represents a well-regarded Sydney-based engineering consultancy seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead a team and position themselves for future partnership.

This role combines hands-on design with strategic leadership: mentoring engineers, directing technical reviews, and delivering building structures in reinforced concrete and structural steel while driving client growth with the Director.

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years of structural engineering experience in AU/NZ consulting
• Strong technical experience in reinforced concrete, steel and building structures
• Proven experience leading teams and mentoring engineers
• Hands-on design capability with ETABS, RAPT, SpaceGass or similar
• Delivery focus with reviews and QA
• Excellent client relationship management and stakeholder engagement
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of consultancy success
• Decisive leadership and accountability

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of structural engineers and designers
• Provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of building structures
• Remain involved in structural analysis, design and complex decisions
• Manage project delivery, resources, programs, budgets and design quality
• Maintain relationships with clients, architects and other consultants
• Review engineering documentation to meet technical and commercial expectations

The Opportunity

You will play a pivotal role in the continued success of the structural engineering division, including:

• Leading, mentoring and developing a team of Structural Engineers and Designers.
• Providing technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of building structures.
• Remaining actively involved in structural analysis, design and complex technical decisions.
• Managing project delivery, resources, programmes, budgets and design quality.
• Maintaining strong relationships with clients, architects and other consultants.
• Reviewing engineering documentation and ensuring projects meet technical and commercial expectations.
• Supporting the Director in improving operational efficiency, team performance and profitability.
• Contributing to the continued growth and long-term success of the consultancy.

Ideally, you will bring:

• 10-15+ years of structural engineering experience within an Australian or New Zealand engineering consultancy.
• Strong technical expertise in reinforced concrete, structural steel and building structures.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and mentoring developing engineers.
• Hands-on structural design capability, ideally including ETABS, RAPT, SpaceGass or similar engineering software.
• Demonstrated responsibility for project delivery, technical reviews and quality assurance.
• Excellent client relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of what makes an engineering consultancy successful.
• The confidence to make decisions, take responsibility and lead by example.
