Principal Regulatory Economist

  • Salary starting from $167,333 plus 15% superannuation

Our team

Our Economic Regulation Division is made up of a small, professional, and dedicated team working across the gas and electricity businesses in the ActewAGL Joint Venture. We provide strategic and economic regulatory advice that helps shape investment in the ACT’s energy sector and meet the challenges of the energy transition. Our team provides regulatory expertise advice and advocacy across a broad range of areas including regulatory reviews, regulatory policy and strategy, regulatory pricing and regulatory finance.

The team has a rare opportunity for a collaborative, highly motivated and analytically focussed individual to come onboard and be a part of the Territory’s leading pathway to electrification.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Group Manager Regulatory Reviews and Policy, this role requires an individual with a passion for regulatory economics and offers a variety of activities and regulatory challenges for you to demonstrate your skills.

You will be responsible for providing expert knowledge and advice on regulation of gas and electricity services, as well as other economic regulatory matters affecting the energy industry. You will have strong analytical and communication skills and an ability to engage with confidence with a broad range of stakeholders.

A day in the life will include:

  • Leading the development of regulatory strategy relating to the efficient regulated revenue and pricing for the electricity and gas network and retail businesses
  • Providing expert economic regulatory advice and analysis to guide senior management and executive
  • Contributing to customer and stakeholder engagement programs for regulatory reviews
  • Leading the development of economic regulatory advice to the electricity and gas network and retail businesses
  • Leading the development of regulatory policy submissions and advocacy to shape the evolution of the regulatory framework
  • Engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including relevant regulators and government agencies.

About You

Do you have relevant tertiary qualifications, and experience in applying economic and strategy analysis to problem solving? Has your previous experience or background given you a detailed understanding of economic regulation in the utility sector or other sectors? Or do you have a demonstrated understanding of the application of micro-economic theory in a commercial and regulatory environment? Are you experienced in presenting complex information to stakeholders, clearly and concisely?
