Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer to lead grid connection projects across Australia, focusing on renewables integration and reliability across NWPS and NWIS regions. You will develop and deliver complex grid studies, model building, and technical guidance for clients in mining, energy and industrial sectors.

The role spans two regional systems, requiring collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with power-systems focus and 5–8+ years in design/engineering consultancy or utility environments.
• Experience with grid-scale renewables (wind/solar/battery) and connecting to NEM & WEM is highly regarded.
• Hands-on experience with grid studies and technical design documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead steady-state and dynamic studies for islanded/weak power systems.
• Assess integration of diesel, gas, solar, wind, battery storage and inverters.
• Develop operating envelopes and dispatch assumptions for decarbonisation projects.
• Prepare technical assessments for new connections and network augmentations.
• Develop and maintain power-system models and deliver auditable reports.
• Engage with asset owners, network providers, and regional coordination bodies.
• Lead workstreams, mentor engineers, and contribute to proposals.
