Job summary

AECOM in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design for high-profile defence and data‑centre projects. You will guide projects from concept to completion, mentor junior engineers, and work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, cost‑effective solutions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years experience within a Building Services consultancy or senior‑level mechanical design experience
• Strong technical design experience across HVAC and mechanical engineering
• Demonstrated experience delivering defence and data‑centre projects
• Strong track record in client management, project delivery and stakeholder engagement
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services-related discipline

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and delivery for major client projects from concept through to completion
• Apply extensive design experience to deliver innovative, cost‑effective solutions
• Participate in technical reviews and design assurance to meet high standards
• Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to project outcomes
• Build relationships with clients and stakeholders to drive delivery
• Mentor junior engineers and support growth of teams
• Conduct quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings
