Job summary

SSE is seeking a Principal Engineer - Building Services to shape technical policy and drive innovative, future-ready projects across our transmission network. You will define and own mechanical specifications for substations and related systems, ensuring compliance with international standards and efficient operation.

This is a Permanent Full Time role with Flexible First options, based in one of our Scotland SSEN offices.

Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartered status.
Expert-level experience in mechanical services design, construction, operation and maintenance in data centres, substations or industrial environments.
Ability to assess issues against national/international standards (National Grid, ENA, British/European specs).
Experience managing diverse stakeholders across engineering, asset management and contractors.

Responsibilities

Write, maintain and own mechanical services specifications for substations and interfaces.
Review and update specifications based on lessons learned and new standards.
Approve tests, witness tests and produce Technical Authority reports.
Provide SME input to design reviews and ensure proposals are fit for purpose.
Share knowledge and represent SSEN Transmission at industry groups and events.
