Principal Level P4 - Holroyd High School

Holroyd High School is a small, successful comprehensive high school with a current enrolment of 560 students 7-12, including 90% non-English speaking backgrounds. As a proudly diverse and inclusive institution, we place a strong emphasis on Visible Learning to build high expectations for all students, and Choice Theory to foster a culture of autonomy, collaboration, and responsibility, creating a safe and nurturing environment where all can thrive. The school has an Intensive English Centre for newly arrived students of non-English speaking background and a support unit for students with an intellectual disability and/or autism. The school receives equity funding to support students from low socio-economic backgrounds.

The high-level areas for improvement are:

1. Student Growth and Attainment with a focus on explicit teaching methods aimed at supporting student growth and bolstering literacy and numeracy skills. We prioritise delivering clear and structured instruction to equip students with the necessary tools for academic success.

2. High Expectations with a focus on fostering an environment where every student is supported and challenged to reach their potential. Through clear goals and rigorous standards, the school cultivates a community committed to excellence and continuous improvement.

3. Relational Pedagogy with a focus on positive relationships and connections across the entire school community to support academic success, social-emotional development, and overall well-being.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. A highly visible and approachable leader with a demonstrated ability to build a cohesive team to drive a shared, inclusive and student-centred vision of high expectations, aligned with the School Excellence Plan and Department priorities.

2. An exemplary instructional leader with a demonstrated capacity to build skilled teaching practices through collaborative professional learning focused on explicit teaching and differentiation that improve outcomes for diverse learners and strengthen literacy, numeracy and HSC achievement.

3. Demonstrated capacity to lead the educational and operational complexity of a diverse comprehensive school with distinct provisions for mainstream, Intensive English Centre and Inclusive Education settings.

4. Demonstrated capacity to lead an inclusive school culture that is responsive to cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic diversity, disability, and the complex learning, wellbeing and support needs of students, through authentic student voice and genuine partnerships with staff, parents and the wider community.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis.The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2026.
