Job summary

WSP Australia is seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant – Environmental Approvals to lead environmental assessment and planning initiatives across major projects. You will mentor a multidisciplinary team and act as the primary client contact, shaping approvals and strategic outcomes in the WA resources sector.

You’ll drive compliance with environmental legislation, coordinate submissions and liaise with regulators, while delivering high-quality, time-conscious results and business

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in environmental planning and approvals.
• Experience leading projects related to environment impact assessment and approvals, especially in the WA resources sector.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation and policy frameworks in Australia.
• Extensive project management delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects on time and within budget.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, with experience writing technical reports and presenting findings.
• Strong business development and client interfacing experience.
• Familiarity with GIS, data analysis or digital tools for environmental assessment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver environmental assessment and planning projects (EIS, SSI, SSD, MID, REFs).
• Lead, mentor, and support a team of environmental professionals.
• Provide senior level coordination within a multidisciplinary team to deliver approvals.
• Develop and maintain client relationships as the primary contact on key projects.
• Contribute to work winning and business development, including fee proposals.
• Collaborate with leadership, client teams, project management and specialists to provide strategic advice.
• Represent the organisation at industry forums, conferences, and client meetings.
• Ensure activities comply with environmental legislation, policies and standards locally, state, and federally.
• Prepare and review submissions, permit applications and impact assessment documentation.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities to ensure timely approval outcomes.
