Job summary

Versent is seeking a Principal Engineer – Security & Identity with extensive SailPoint experience to lead enterprise identity initiatives. You will architect, deliver and govern SailPoint IAM solutions while advising customers and delivery teams on secure, scalable outcomes.

You’ll drive technical direction, manage complex integrations with AD, Entra ID and enterprise systems, and mentor engineers to advance Versent’s identity capability. NV1 clearance is preferred or eligible.

Job description

We are seeking a Principal Engineer – Security & Identity with extensive SailPoint experience to provide technical leadership across complex identity and access management engagements. You will be a hands‑on technical leader, trusted advisor and subject‑matter expert who designs, delivers and governs enterprise‑grade SailPoint solutions. You will work closely with customers, architects, engineers and delivery teams to translate business and security requirements into practical, scalable and compliant identity outcomes. Must either hold an NV1 security clearance or be willing and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance.

What you’ll do

Technical leadership and delivery:

Lead the architecture, design and delivery of SailPoint-based Identity Governance and Administration solutions across the full delivery lifecycle, from discovery and requirements through implementation, testing, deployment and transition to operations. Set technical direction through practical solution patterns, engineering standards, reference architectures and delivery approaches. Lead customer and stakeholder discussions, explain complex identity and security concepts clearly, and provide pragmatic recommendations on technical risks, dependencies and design constraints. Guide engineers and delivery teams through complex technical challenges, and review designs, configurations, code and integrations for quality, security and maintainability.

SailPoint expertise:

Design, implement and support enterprise SailPoint solutions that deliver identity lifecycle management, access governance and compliance outcomes. Apply hands‑on expertise across joiner, mover and leaver processes; identity aggregation, correlation and identity cube design; access requests and approvals; role and entitlement management; access certifications; segregation‑of‑duties controls; and automated provisioning and deprovisioning. Lead application onboarding, connector configuration and identity data integration across Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, HRIS, ERP, ITSM, database, SaaS and custom application environments. Use secure integration patterns, including APIs, web services, messaging, file‑based interfaces and modern authentication protocols. Support SailPoint upgrades, migrations, customisation, environment management and releases, with repeatable approaches to configuration, testing, deployment, monitoring and operations. Ensure solutions provide strong auditability, compliance evidence, performance, troubleshooting and operational support while aligning with least privilege and segregation‑of‑duties requirements.

Architecture and security:

Develop scalable solution architectures and identity governance models that address business, regulatory and security requirements, including access reviews, lifecycle automation, certification campaigns and compliance reporting. Assess existing identity environments and define practical modernisation roadmaps. Apply secure‑by‑design principles, including least privilege, defence in depth, continuous verification and full attribution. Identify and manage risks relating to identity data, privileged access, integrations and authentication flows, contributing to broader Security & Identity outcomes across identity and access, infrastructure security, compliance and risk.

Engineering excellence

Promote version control, configuration management, automated testing, repeatable deployments, release and change management, secure coding and configuration practices. Maintain clear technical documentation, operational runbooks, monitoring, logging and alerting. Improve delivery through automation, reusable components and consistent implementation standards. Participate in design reviews, technical governance, quality assurance and post‑implementation reviews to drive continuous improvement.

Customer and practice contribution

Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers and senior stakeholders, facilitating discovery workshops, technical working sessions and design forums. Communicate recommendations clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences and support pre‑sales activities, including solution shaping, estimates, proposals, demonstrations and technical presentations. Mentor engineers and grow Versent’s SailPoint and identity capability through knowledge sharing, patterns, playbooks, reusable assets and internal enablement. Build effective relationships with customers, partners, suppliers and internal delivery teams.

What you’ll bring

Mandatory experience:

Extensive hands‑on experience delivering enterprise SailPoint solutions across architecture, implementation, configuration, integration, customisation, troubleshooting and operational support. Proven expertise across Identity Governance and Administration, including identity lifecycle management; joiner, mover and leaver automation; access requests and approvals; access certifications and reviews; role and entitlement management; segregation‑of‑duties policies; provisioning and deprovisioning; and application onboarding and connector integration. Experience integrating SailPoint with complex enterprise environments, including directories, HR systems, cloud platforms, databases, SaaS applications and custom systems. Demonstrated ability to lead technical delivery across complex identity and security engagements, from solution architecture and technical design through implementation planning and operational documentation. Strong understanding of identity and security principles, including least privilege, role‑based access control, identity lifecycle management, auditability and separation of duties. Ability to troubleshoot complex platform, integration and identity‑data issues. Strong communication, stakeholder management and consulting skills, with the ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within delivery teams.

Desirable experience:

Experience with SailPoint IdentityIQ or Identity Security Cloud, including upgrades, migrations or platform modernisation. Experience with Java, BeanShell, APIs, web services, SQL, scripting or other SailPoint integration technologies. Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, ServiceNow, Workday or other HR and ITSM platforms, particularly in regulated environments. Knowledge of security frameworks, compliance obligations and identity governance controls. Experience with cloud, DevOps, infrastructure‑as‑code or CI/CD, plus relevant SailPoint, identity, security or cloud certifications. Experience with other identity platforms such as Saviynt, Okta and Ping well regarded.
