Job summary

Endeavour Energy in Sydney is seeking a Principal Engineer - Future Energy Planning to provide principal-level technical leadership across network planning and the evolving energy landscape.

You will lead complex planning assessments, mentor engineers, and translate analysis into clear options and recommendations for stakeholders as the energy system transitions to DER, electrification, batteries and EV charging.

About the role

As Principal Engineer - Future Energy Planning, you'll provide principal-level technical leadership across network planning, helping shape robust, consistent and defensible planning practices across Endeavour Energy's network.

You'll lead and review complex planning and connection assessments associated with the rapidly changing energy landscape, including distributed energy resources (DER), electrification, batteries, EV charging, data centres, large customer loads and emerging network constraints.

As a senior technical authority, you'll combine deep engineering expertise with strong judgement, mentoring and influence. You'll provide technical direction to engineers, lead peer reviews and translate complex analysis into clear recommendations that support confident decision-making.

What you'll be doing

• Provide principal-level technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to Future Energy Planning Engineers.
• Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex network planning activities.
• Lead and peer review planning assessments, connection support material and engineering recommendations.
• Lead complex distribution planning investigations involving DER, electrification, batteries, EV charging, data centres, large loads, generation and other emerging network requirements.
• Undertake and guide power system studies covering load growth, voltage, thermal performance, fault level, hosting capacity and broader network impacts.
• Provide authoritative technical input into connection assessments, network capacity reviews and options analysis.
• Challenge assumptions, identify material risks and determine appropriate assessment pathways for complex or non-routine matters.
• Improve the consistency and quality of planning practices, including templates, assumptions, workflows, processes and quality controls.
• Translate complex technical analysis into concise options, risks and recommendations for managers and stakeholders.
• Influence internal and external stakeholders through clear, evidence-based technical advice.

About you

You're an experienced electrical engineer with significant expertise in distribution network planning and the technical judgement to lead complex engineering investigations.

You're comfortable operating as a technical leader without relying on direct line authority, bringing people together around sound engineering practices while constructively challenging assumptions and improving the quality of planning outcomes.

You'll bring:

• Extensive experience in distribution planning and connection assessments, including complex assessments involving DER, electrification, batteries, EV charging, large loads and emerging network constraints.
• Strong principal-level engineering judgement, with the ability to independently structure complex technical investigations, assess risk and provide defensible recommendations.
• Strong power system study capability, ideally using PowerFactory or an equivalent modelling platform.
• Experience across areas such as DER, electrification, batteries, EV charging, generation, large customer loads or major connections.
• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, mentoring and peer review, including guiding engineers and uplifting technical capability.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to turn complex engineering analysis into clear options, risks and recommendations.
• Experience improving engineering processes, workflows, assumptions, templates and technical guidance to support consistent and scalable planning outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a Power Systems focus or related discipline.
• Progress toward Chartered Professional Engineer status through Engineers Australia, or equivalent professional standing, is desirable.
