Job summary

LAB3 is seeking a Principal Engineer – Cloud Self-Service Delivery, based in Melbourne or Sydney, for a 6-month contract to support a major cloud service integration initiative in a highly regulated enterprise.

You will connect cloud, DevOps, security, identity and governance systems to enable highly automated, self-service cloud onboarding and provisioning, while providing hands-on leadership and mentoring across engineering and delivery teams.

Qualifications

• Senior, hands-on technologist with strategic view on service activation and platform integration.
• Strong development and code-driven automation background.
• Experience delivering automated cloud resources and self-service tech to internal consumers.
• Deep knowledge of Azure; GCP/AWS experience preferred.
• Experience with interconnected DevOps and platform tooling like Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Bamboo.
• Experience with cloud deployment pipelines, identity-provider integration and provisioning.
• Exposure to internal developer platforms or similar service-enablement platforms.
• Experience in banking or highly regulated environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement across specialist technical teams.

LAB3 is one of the largest Azure engineering practices in the Australasia region, with a focus on Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Modern Apps & Integration, Security, and Network services.

We are looking for a Principal Engineer – Cloud Self-Service Delivery based in Sydney or Melbourne to work on IDP / DevEx infrastructure. This is a contract opportunity for 6 months at an attractive daily rate, supporting a major cloud service integration initiative, within a highly regulated enterprise.

You will help connect cloud, DevOps, security, identity and governance systems to create a highly automated, self-service experience that reduces cloud onboarding and provisioning lead times.

The role

• Lead the technical enablement and integration of cloud services across development, DevOps, security, identity and governance platforms.
• Design and improve automated, code-driven cloud onboarding and provisioning services.
• Connect multiple development toolsets and delivery pipelines to create a seamless self-service experience for cloud consumers.
• Troubleshoot complex platform and integration issues while maintaining a strategic view of the wider service ecosystem.
• Shape secure, scalable and reliable cloud-enablement patterns for a highly regulated environment.
• Partner with specialist cloud, security, identity and platform teams to align technical solutions and delivery outcomes.
• Provide Principal-level technical leadership while remaining hands-on with engineering, automation and systems integration.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and influence stakeholders across the organisation.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for a senior, hands-on technologist who can think strategically about service activation and platform integration while taking ownership of complex technical outcomes. This is a hybrid role - you must be available for on-site work a few days each week.

Technical skills and experience:

• Principal-level capability spanning cloud enablement, DevOps, automation and systems integration.
• A strong development and code-driven automation background.
• Experience delivering automated cloud resources & self-service technology to internal consumers.
• Strong knowledge of Azure, with additional GCP/AWS experience preferred
• Experience across interconnected DevOps and platform tooling, including technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins and Bamboo.
• Experience with cloud deployment pipelines, identity-provider integration, cloud onboarding and provisioning.
• Exposure to internal developer platforms or similar service-enablement platforms.
• Experience in banking or another highly regulated environment.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively across specialist technical teams.

Desirable:

• Fundamental knowledge across Azure, AWS and GCP, with specialist depth in one or more cloud platforms.
• Experience connecting multiple pipeline technologies to deliver internal consumer outcomes.
• Experience with Prefect or Python frameworks.
• Experience building or supporting an internal developer platform (IDP) /DevEx infrastructure is ideal

You do not need expertise across every technology or all three major cloud platforms. Depth in selected technologies, combined with sufficient breadth to understand and integrate the wider ecosystem, is more important.
