LAB3 is a leading Azure engineering practitioner in Australasia, delivering cloud, DevOps, data, AI, and security solutions for complex enterprise environments. The Lead Engineer (Managed Services) will oversee ongoing client support, drive modernization on Azure, and champion automation and governance across engagements.

You will mentor engineers, shape delivery practices, and collaborate with pre-sales and senior stakeholders, providing technical leadership and hands-on implementation guidance

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical client engagements around architecture design and strategy
  • Design, advise and implement Azure patterns addressing scalability, security, operations and performance
  • Identify and nurture growth opportunities within existing clients
  • Communicate and present discoveries to senior management and executives
  • Partner with project leaders for scheduling, estimates and delivery
  • Support pre-sales with documentation and requirements
  • Setup proof-of-concept prototypes to validate solutions
  • Identify, interpret and communicate insights, costs, and workshop outcomes
  • Run workshops and cloud adoption activities with customers
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers

Job description

LAB3 is one of the largest Azure engineering practices in the Australasia region with a focus on Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Modern Apps & Integration, Security, and Network services.

We have an opportunity for a Lead Engineer (Managed Services) with expertise in Cloud & DevOpsto lead, deliver & oversee ongoing support to our clients by providing continual service improvement and modernization on a Microsoft Azure platform. You will influence governance, processes, documentation and support internal uplift, with an emphasis on automation.

Please note to be successful in your application, you will need to have minimum Baseline Security Clearance (or be an Australian citizen and willing to obtain).

The Role
  • Lead technical client engagements around architecture design and strategy. Understand strategic business requirements and drive high level design, consultation, maturity assessments and delivery of appropriate solutions in an Azure cloud environment.
  • Design, advise and implement state-of-the-art technical patterns on Azure that address clients’ requirements for scalability, reliability, security, operations, and performance. Provide deep reviews and deliverables whilst engaging as a SME.
  • Identify and nurture growth opportunities within existing clients. Recommend client value creation initiatives and implement industry best practices,
  • Communicate and present discoveries to Senior Management and Executive stakeholders (including C-Suite & Directors), as required.
  • Partner with Project Leaders to provide technical input into scheduling, estimating activities and project delivery, as required
  • Support our pre-sales teams in driving documentation, written requirements, and transformative direction. Interact with technical delivery, project, and sales teams
  • Help setup proof-of-concept prototypes that assess the feasibility of solutions and demonstrate to our clients how technology can be leveraged.
  • Identify, interpret, and communicate meaningful insights, conclusions, cost estimations, workshops, presentations, and report to clients
  • Run workshops and cloud adoption activities with our customers as necessary.
  • Provide technical leadership and be a role model to engineers by providing onboarding support, influencing development plans, mentoring, educating, and encouraging best practice regarding designs and delivery execution processes.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Will have high-end technical skills in Azure cloud & DevOps and on-prem environments, combined with a proactive client focus and excellent communication skills.
  • Commercially aware, with a client-first mindset.
  • A passion for continuous improvement, an instinct for spotting areas of improvement and the initiative to do something about it.
  • Strong documentation discipline with a methodical approach to process. You follow established frameworks rigorously, and when you find a gap, you don't wait to be asked to fill it.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications are a plus.
  • Experience across a combination of the following: Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Foundry, AI Agent workflows, Azure IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, Azure Networking (vWAN, Hybrid, hub and spoke), Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure IAM, Privilege Identity Management (PIM) and RBAC Design, Azure DevOps / GitHub, IaC – Terraform, ARM Templates, Bicep, Azure Containers (ACR, ACA, ACI, AKS), Azure Integration (Logic Apps, API Management etc.) and Microservices, Azure Functions, Key Vault & Backups, Azure Policy, Governance and Compliance, Management Groups & Subscription Management, PowerShell module creation and management, Secure Azure SQL solutions (Azure SQL, Cosmos dB, Azure SQL MI) & Cloud Storage, Microsoft Fabric and Capacities, Cloud identity, Security, Governance, Licensing, Azure Backup.
