Job description

Principal Electrical Engineer Infrastructure Power

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advance, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

Sydney | Flexible / Hybrid Working

Some of Australia's most complex infrastructure projects depend on reliable, resilient and well-designed power systems. Jacobs is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Power team in Sydney, providing technical leadership across electrical infrastructure typically ranging from 415V through to 66kV.

This is a broad power engineering role rather than a narrow discipline specialist position. You'll work across complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, solving electrical challenges spanning HV and MV distribution, substations, switchgear, protection, power systems and associated electrical infrastructure. You'll have the opportunity to remain technically engaged while taking a leading role with clients, projects and developing engineers. Most importantly, we're looking for someone with breadth across power engineering who enjoys solving complex infrastructure problems and working across traditional discipline boundaries.

Why Jacobs?

This role offers something different from a narrowly defined power engineering position. You'll have the opportunity to apply your electrical expertise across a diverse infrastructure portfolio, work alongside specialists from multiple engineering disciplines and take a leading role in shaping solutions from early concept through to delivery. You'll be part of Jacobs' broader engineering network, providing opportunities to collaborate with teams across Australia and internationally while continuing to build your technical and leadership career. If you're an experienced power engineer looking for greater project diversity, technical influence and the opportunity to work across some of Australia's most complex infrastructure environments, we'd like to hear from you.

Here's what you'll do

As a Principal Engineer, you'll help lead the development and delivery of electrical power solutions across major infrastructure projects. Your work may include:

Lead electrical engineering and design across LV, MV and HV infrastructure, typically from 415V to 66kV

Develop electrical distribution and power system solutions for complex infrastructure environments

Work across equipment and systems including switchgear, transformers, substations, protection and associated electrical infrastructure

Lead design reviews, technical assurance and multidisciplinary engineering interfaces

Work directly with clients to understand their challenges and develop practical engineering solutions

Lead technical packages and coordinating engineering inputs across multidisciplinary projects

Mentor and provide technical guidance to developing engineers

Supporting proposals, project development and strategic client engagement

Here's what you'll need

We're interested in experienced electrical engineers who have built their careers around power and electrical infrastructure. You may have developed your experience through major infrastructure, transport, rail, water, utilities, industrial, resources, renewable energy or other complex power environments. Ideally, you'll bring:

Electrical engineering experience across LV, MV and/or HV power infrastructure

Experience designing and delivering electrical distribution systems and associated infrastructure

Strong knowledge across areas such as switchgear, transformers, substations, protection, power systems or electrical reticulation

Experience providing technical leadership on multidisciplinary projects

The ability to engage with clients and translate complex requirements into practical engineering solutions

Knowledge of relevant Australian standards and engineering practices

Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers
