Job summary

Queensland Treasury is seeking a Principal Data Modeller to oversee data platform reliability, design scalable data models and lead data engineering initiatives. You will work with stakeholders to ensure data quality and timely delivery.

This role requires strong leadership, hands-on experience with large-scale data projects, SQL, Databricks, SAP, and Azure technologies; familiarity with Medallion Architecture and LSA++ is valued.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership and communication skills (verbal and written).
• 3+ years in large-scale projects (EDW, data lake, Lakehouse, analytical app).
• Understanding of SQL, agile, data modelling, data engineering, ELT with Databricks and SAP.
• Experience with Medallion Architecture and Layered Scalable Architecture (LSA++).
• Experience with Azure Data Storage, Azure Synapse, Databricks; SAP HANA desirable.

Job description

Your typical day as a Principal Data Modeller may include:

• Monitoring the smooth ongoing operation and reliability of the data platform and data pipelines, resolving pipeline failures, and communicating the resolution plan and timeline with internal stakeholders.
• Sourcing new data, building new ETL and pipelines, enhancing data quality and integrity, extending the target data model and reporting.
• Documenting the solution architecture, integrations, procedures, and production changes.

You will be supported by a positive, constructive team and divisional leaders as you do your work.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

• Strong leadership and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• At least 3 years of hands‑on experience in large scale projects related to one or more of the following areas: Enterprise data warehouse, data lake, Lakehouse, analytical application.
• Understanding and working knowledge of SQL, agile process, data modelling, data engineering, ELT development with Databricks and SAP technologies.
• Experience of technical delivery following Medallion Architecture and Layered Scalable Architecture (LSA++).
• Experience with Azure Data Storage, Azure Synapse, Databricks, DevOps, SAP HANA (XSA and XSC), is desirable.
