Job summary

BHP is seeking a Principal Data Analytics professional to guide the technical and analytical direction of the maintenance portfolio. You will quantify trade-offs between reliability, cost and risk and lead production-ready analytics solutions.

You will design data models and pipelines, define analytics standards, and ensure findings drive action with senior stakeholders. Collaborative work with data scientists, analysts and business experts is expected.

Qualifications

• Must have strong SQL and Python skills with production-ready analytics experience.
• Experience designing data models, pipelines and schemas used by practitioners.
• Reliability engineering or asset management experience in mining/manufacturing or heavy industry.
• Ability to develop executive-level narratives and high-quality communication artefacts.

About The Role

BHP's Data Analytics team is responsible for managing critical maintenance datasets and undertaking diagnostic analysis to drive maintenance productivity across BHP.

As a Principal in the Data Analytics team, you will help set the technical and analytical direction for BHP’s maintenance portfolio. You will quantify and assess the trade-off between reliability, cost and risk. You will do this by leading the development of industry-leading maintenance analytics solutions. You will own the outcome end to end – designing the data models and governed pipelines the team builds on, defining the standard that analysis is held to, and ensuring findings translate into real-world action rather than stopping at a report.

You will be a recognised authority on reliability and asset management within BHP, trusted by senior stakeholders to shape their thinking before decisions are made. You will frame maintenance findings against the production constraints and unit costs that govern each asset and translate your findings into artefacts appropriate for senior leadership forums.

The Principal Data Analytics will work collaboratively alongside our team of data scientists, data analysts and business subject matter experts.

About You

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science, IT or a related quantitative discipline.
• Strong SQL and Python skills with experience developing production-ready analytics solutions
• Demonstrated experience designing data models, pipelines and schemas that other practitioners build on.
• Substantial reliability engineering or asset management experience in mining, manufacturing or similar heavy industry.
• Demonstrated experience in developing executive-level narratives and high-quality communication artefacts.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

Other Highly Regarded Experience Includes

• Fluency in Spanish.
• Experience coaching and lifting the technical capability of others.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate reliability and maintenance performance with production, financial and commercial outcomes, including maintenance economics, unit cost and value-driver analysis.
