The Shire of Banana is seeking a Civil Engineer to coordinate the engineering aspects of internal and external infrastructure works. You will provide technical advice, prepare construction plans, engineering calculations and documentation, and supervise the Technical Services team.

Responsibilities include managing infrastructure projects and consultants to meet scope, budget and schedule, preparing funding applications, and representing Council at meetings.

Competenze

• Hold a Queensland C class manual driver's licence.
• Must have QLD General Safety Induction – White or Blue Card.
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Desirable: Registered Engineer of Qld (RPEQ).

GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION

To coordinate the engineering aspects of internal and external infrastructure works within the Shire in accordance with Council policy, industry standards and Legislative requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide technical advice and engineering support to internal and external stakeholders on operational works, development standards, design requirements and infrastructure projects, including the preparation of construction plans, engineering calculations, cost estimates, specifications and technical documentation.
• Investigate, assess and report on issues relating to the repair, maintenance and construction of Council's infrastructure assets.
• Undertake specialist technical assessments and designs, including Heavy Vehicle Route Assessments, Level 2 bridge inspections, Road Safety Audits and traffic management design.
• Supervise, train and mentor Technical Services team members.
• Manage infrastructure projects and technical consultants to achieve agreed scope, budget, quality and program outcomes.
• Prepare, submit and administer infrastructure funding applications and associated reporting requirements.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve work practices, procedures, policies and management systems.
• Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the Technical Services budget.
• Represent Council at government, industry, community and stakeholder meetings and forums.
• Perform all duties in accordance with relevant legislation, technical standards, and Council's quality, safety, environmental and operational policies and procedures.
• Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations.
• Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties including providing and obtaining information.
• Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position eg. timesheets.
• Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices as required.
• Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required.
• Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Compulsory: Queensland ‘C’ class manual driver's licence
• Compulsory: QLD General Safety Induction – White or Blue Card
• Compulsory: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Desirable: Registered Engineer of Qld (RPEQ).

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

• Demonstrated experience in engineering, in particular infrastructure planning/design, project management, asset management, and surveying.
• High level of keyboard and computer skills including engineering, survey and design software, GIS and the MS Office Suite of programs.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise a team in an environment of change, establish work priorities and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of Council Departments, policies and procedures and relevant legislative requirements.
• Good literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS

• The employee acknowledges that this role requires them to hold and maintain a class ‘C’ manual drivers licence and that the loss of licence may jeopardise employment with Council
• The employee agrees to be available to travel within and outside of Shire boundaries for work and training purposes and may be required to work away from home for unspecified periods of time
• The employee agrees to be available for work on weekends and public holidays as required.
