Principal – Contaminated Lands

Shape complex remediation projects with a leading environmental team. RPS is seeking an experienced Principal to join our Contaminated Lands team in Perth. Based in our Subiaco office with flexible hybrid working arrangements, this is an opportunity to step into a senior leadership role delivering technically complex and high‑impact environmental projects across Western Australia and beyond. You will join a collaborative national network of environmental engineers, scientists, geologists, hydrologists and hydrogeologists, working across contaminated land assessment, remediation, hazardous materials and risk management projects for a diverse client base. This role is ideal for a technically strong consultant who enjoys mentoring others, building client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of a high‑performing team.

In This Role, You Will

• Lead contaminated land investigation and remediation projects from proposal through to delivery.
• Manage field programmes, review analytical data and provide practical remediation solutions.
• Prepare and review technical reports including PSI, DSI, SAQP, RAP and SRV documentation.
• Deliver human health and ecological risk assessments.
• Support HazMat inspections, management plans and clearance programmes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators and stakeholders.
• Mentor and support junior consultants across technical delivery and career development.
• Contribute to business growth, project strategy and team capability.

About You

• A degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Earth Science or related discipline.
• 8+ years’ experience in contaminated land assessment and remediation within Australia.
• Strong knowledge of relevant contaminated land guidelines and regulatory frameworks including NEPM, DWER and DoH guidance.
• Experience managing complex projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A practical, solutions‑focused and collaborative approach.

Desirable Experience Includes

• Acid Sulfate Soils investigations.
• HazMat auditing and removals supervision.
• ESdat and Alpha Tracker experience.
• Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) status.
• Asbestos‑related qualifications and supervision experience.
