Job Description

The Asia Group (TAG) is now accepting applications for a Managing Director / Principal to join our Australia Practice. This role will be based in Canberra and will lead the in‑country Australia team’s fast‑paced daily operations, client engagement, and business development efforts.

As a key member of TAG, you will support and grow our portfolio of clients. Areas of focus include team leadership, market‑access and expansion campaigns, and offering creative solutions to clients.

Responsibilities

• Manage and drive the day allgemeinen of the in‑country Australia team and oversee the development of briefings and written materials for TAG leadership and clients.
• Coordinate and manage Australia‐related TAG communications and liaison with key clients.
• Oversee client servicing, client engagements and activities, and business development in Australia, including tenders from Commonwealth and state governments.
• Lead an active, fast‑paced team with expertise and activities across a broad range of issue areas.
• Facilitate and lead integration and collaboration across TAG’s global offices and practices.
• Oversee office operations, compliance, and alignment with TAG’s global standards.
• Invest in mentoring and developing staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurialism.
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders in government, industry, academia, and media to advance firm interests and address client needs.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (e.g., MA, MBA, MPP) and 15+ years’ relevant work experience.
• Experience in finance, government relations, mining and infrastructure, consulting, the public sector, or comparable experience; demonstrable ability to work independently.
• Strong leader with a clear record of success leading business operations and effective teams in high‑tempo environments.
• Effective communicator, able to present in a polished manner to senior business executives and other senior‑level interlocutors in multinational settings.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Australian private sector, regulatory environment, and relevant government policies.
• Experience in client servicing, business development, project management, and autonomous execution.
• Flexibility with respect to working and communication hours, particularly when coordinating with clients and team members in Washington D.C. and other TAG offices in the region.
