South Coast Baptist College is seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary Classroom Teacher - Year 6 to join our Primary School and contribute to the launch and development of our Future Ready program for Years 5 and 6 in 2027 .

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an evolving Upper Primary learning model that combines strong foundations in literacy and numeracy with purposeful inquiry, collaboration and authentic learning experiences. You will help students develop the knowledge, character, independence and confidence they need as they prepare for the transition to Secondary School.

The role includes teaching your own class for literacy and numeracy, as well as delivering AUSLAN across the Year 6 cohort. You will work collaboratively with the Year 6 team within a hybrid learning model that provides opportunities for subject-focused teaching while maintaining strong relationships and consistent pastoral care.

Previous AUSLAN experience is welcome but not essential, as professional learning, curriculum resources and ongoing support will be provided.

About the role

Working collaboratively within the Year 6 team, you will:

  • Plan, deliver and assess engaging learning programs aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.
  • Provide high-quality teaching, pastoral care and learning support, fostering positive relationships and a safe, inclusive classroom environment.
  • Contribute to the launch and development of the Years 5-6 Future Ready program, supporting students to develop independence, organisation, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Learn and teach AUSLAN across the Year 6 cohort, with training and support provided by the College.
  • Use effective teaching practices, including explicit instruction, purposeful inquiry, assessment and differentiated learning, to support student progress and achievement.
  • Collaborate with Year 6 colleagues and specialist teachers to support shared planning, consistent routines, curriculum delivery and student wellbeing.
  • Help students develop the self-management and organisational skills required to move between classes and learning spaces confidently and responsibly.
  • Use technology safely and purposefully to enhance learning while maintaining a balance with reading, handwriting, discussion and practical learning experiences.
  • Contribute to Year 6 camp, student leadership, the College House system, chapels, assemblies and wider Primary School activities.
About you

You are a passionate and relational educator who is committed to helping students grow academically, socially and spiritually. You will bring:

  • A recognised teaching qualification and current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and assess high-quality Primary literacy and numeracy programs.
  • An understanding of effective pedagogy, including explicit teaching, purposeful inquiry and differentiated learning.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to establish clear expectations, positive relationships and consistent routines.
  • A collaborative approach to teaching and a willingness to contribute to an evolving Upper Primary learning model.
  • A willingness to undertake training and develop the skills required to teach AUSLAN.
  • Confidence in using technology safely and effectively to support student learning and digital citizenship.
  • An understanding of Upper Primary learners and the importance of developing independence and readiness for Secondary School.
  • A commitment to child safety, student wellbeing and inclusive practice.
  • A genuine commitment to the Christian faith and the ethos and values of South Coast Baptist College, with the ability to provide a reference from a Pastor or Christian leader.
  • Flexibility, initiative and enthusiasm for contributing to the development of Future Ready and the wider life of the College.
