We have NATA accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) coal laboratories servicing all major coal ports in Australia and have significant involvement with the superintending of coal exported overseas, quality control at mine sites / power plants and borecore evaluation.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Preparation Supervisor to join our Gladstone team. In this role, you will support the Business Manager in delivering high-quality, timely laboratory services, while leading a team to ensure accurate sampling, preparation, analysis, and reporting in line with international standards.

You will play a key role in driving team performance, maintaining strong safety standards, and supporting continuous improvement across operations.

What you will do

  • Lead and coordinate daily preparation activities to ensure timely and accurate results
  • Supervise coal sample preparation and testing in line with relevant standards
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality systems
  • Promote a strong safety culture, including risk identification and mitigation
  • Monitor team performance and intervene where required to maintain safe work practices
  • Maintain and improve procedures, work instructions, and risk assessments
  • Support staff training, development, and competency assessments
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and clients
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and ad-hoc projects
Qualifications

About You

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in coal laboratory operations
  • Strong knowledge of sampling, preparation, analysis, validation, and reporting
  • Experience with quality and compliance systems
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment (or working towards) highly regarded
  • Strong safety mindset with proven risk management capability
  • Solid administrative and computer skills (Word, Excel, CCLAS)
  • Proven ability to manage priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
