Job summary

SDM Composites in Victoria is seeking a Manual Lathe Operator to set up and run manual lathes, performing turning, drilling, threading and finishing to close tolerances in accordance with engineering drawings. You will work with precision measuring tools and inspect parts for dimensional accuracy.

Qualifications

• Read engineering drawings and translate into setup steps.
• Capable of maintaining tolerances within specified limits.
• Proficient with precision measuring tools and inspection notes.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathes to perform turning, knurling, drilling, tapping, reaming, counter-boring, and deep drilling operations.
• Install tooling, collets, holders, stops and indexing mechanisms.
• Adjust clearances, speeds, feeds and timing to meet tolerances.
• Run tests to verify setup and correct as needed.
• Monitor processes and make adjustments for accuracy.
• Regulate coolant flow, remove chips, and keep area safe and clean.
• Perform basic machine maintenance and oil changes.
• Diagnose malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
• Machine from blueprints and specs to produce conforming parts.
• Inspect finished components with precision measuring equipment.
