Job summary

Aurecon is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to join our Perth-based Energy team. You will contribute to projects that connect renewable energy, data centres and large loads to SWIS, delivering robust modelling and credible studies.

You will work with PowerFactory and PSCAD to develop network, generator and load models, prepare technical reports, and engage with Western Power and clients to progress connection applications and approvals.

Qualifications

• SWIS modelling experience essential and strong understanding of renewable energy and WEM processes.
• Experience with Western Power connection submissions and responsive technical reviews.
• Proficiency with PowerFactory and PSCAD for network modelling and connection studies.

• Providing technical leadership and client-facing advice while helping build Aurecon's power systems modelling capability in Western Australia.

Power Systems Engineer

What you'll do

As a Power Systems Engineer in our Perth-based Energy team, you'll contribute to projects and programs that make a real difference and be part of a team that embraces challenges, welcomes diverse ideas, and engineer solutions with people and outcomes in mind.

Amongst other engineering tasks you will focus on

• Developing network, generator and load models and power systems studies to enable our clients to connect their projects to Western Power's South West Interconnected Network (SWIN).
• Undertaking generator and large load connection studies for renewable energy projects, data centres and large customers using PowerFactory and PSCAD.
• Preparing technical reports and connection documentation that address Western Power requirements and relevant Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) processes.
• Engaging directly with clients and Western Power, respond to technical reviews and lead discussions through the connection application and approval process.
• Providing technical leadership and client-facing advice while helping build Aurecon's power systems modelling and capability in Western Australia.

What you'll bring

• Relevant engineering qualifications and demonstrated experience modelling the SWIS, with a strong understanding renewable generating systems and WEM processes.
• Deep familiarity with Western Power requirements and standards, including preparing connection submissions and responding to technical reviews.
• Practical capability with PowerFactory and PSCAD for network modelling, generator and load connections, and connection studies.
• Experience delivering grid connection studies for renewable generation, large loads or data centres, supported by clear technical reporting and documentation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain study outcomes to clients and lead technical connection discussions with Western Power.
