Job summary

APA is seeking a Mathematical Optimisation Specialist in Brisbane to turn complex operational and commercial challenges into practical models. You will develop and own optimisation models using Gurobi, translate constraints into mathematical frameworks, and deploy production-ready solutions with Python across asset management.

The role partners with engineering, operations and commercial teams to drive decision intelligence for energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Must have demonstrated experience using Gurobi for mathematical optimisation (constraints & objective function programming).
• PhD in Mathematics or related quantitative field; preference for undergraduate Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in mathematical optimisation/operations research translating real-world problems into models.
• Strong Python capability and experience developing analytical or optimisation solutions for operational environments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills to explain complex concepts to business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own mathematical optimisation models for operational and investment decisions, including dispatch, simulation and predictive modelling.
• Translate problems, constraints and objectives into practical mathematical models using Gurobi.
• Analyse asset performance, reliability trends and failure modes to identify opportunities to improve utilisation and value.
• Develop, test, validate and deploy production-ready optimisation solutions using Python with scenario modelling.
• Collaborate across engineering, operations and commercial teams to integrate optimisation models into decision making.
